Maybe Moore NOT starter (per Gantt, per sources)

Okay, I still think you're all missing the point. Let me ask this another way:

Matt Moore throws a bad interception. He trudges defeatedly to the sideline where ___________ offers Matt encouragement and points out a subtlety in the coverage that he has seen hundreds of times and gives him a suggestion on how to counter it.

Who would you fill in the blank with? Do you really think it's Tyler Thigpen or Brady Quinn?

There really aren't any seasoned veterans out there that you could fill that blank with, though...

josh mccown is my first choice even with the age.

forced to choose between quinn and thigpen i'd go quinn.

i don't think that our backup QB has been released frm his team yet. i'm not sure who that is going to be but thigpen and quinn fall in that group. of tthose two i think thigpen is the least likely to hit the market.

there is a few things that is going to hold them back in finding competition and that is $$.

they don't want to spend it. are you going to find a serious contender for the job to compete with moore for a 1 year gig and only $2mil?

not only that you have to remember that the panthers are on the youth movement jag at the moment. that means under 30.

also, it will have to be someone that doesn't require giving up a draft pick.

that leaves of the available players....

jim sorgi.

we have the $$, its whether or not jr wants to spend it. as for the age thing....

derek anderson will be 27 at the start of the season (26 now) = veteran that likes to throw the deep ball, much like moore

brady quinn will be 25 at the start of the season (26 in october) = not as veteran savvy, similar to moore in the bench role and still learning the game.

two guys that fit under the direction we're going in, with anderson being the better mentor for moore. not saying that anderson is a guru or necessarily a guy i want mentoring our young qb, but we could do a lot worse. the cleveland connection makes too much sense and i think it's just a matter of money whether we pursue one of them or not. if we're looking for a game manager that won't kill us, allow the running game to grind it out and be a back-up for moore (or challenge moore), than either brownies' qb would fit the bill.

Rip Scherer?

John Fox said that Moore was the starter, and when John Fox actually makes a clear statement like that, which is extremely rare, you can pretty much take it to the bank.

Of course they always want competition at every position though, if they can get it.

FWIW...I have a feeling that they really like Cantwell.

I am not sold on Cantwell. He's got a pretty good arm, but he has a long way to go before we even should think about putting him in an actual game (just my opinion). He's not unlike the countless other "project" quarterbacks we bring in that sit on the roster for years but never really do much else.

I really hope I'm wrong about that.

I'm not sold on Cantwell either, but I just have a feeling that the Panthers are sold on him. He certainly has the tools to be a good QB...it's just a matter of how much he has progressed since he's been here.
