the block, so he can either create pressure or get a sack providing the QB doesn't adjust accordingly.

That is the lamest justification for extending him that I have ever heard of.  So he's kig of the almost sacks. If he could only get those qbs from moving he would win 100% of the time. I also need them to stop running the ball so I can get more chances at a sack. Because I suck a stopping the run. Yeah that screams a player you should hang into.

Getting pressure is pretty important as well.  Incompletions and hopefully interceptions can come from that.  I pointed to his sacks last year and you said they didn't come at game saving times so I am showing they were next to zero opportunities for those type of plays do to the offense sucking.

I'm not a die hard, but just saying you may see him take off on another team once he gets more opportunities.  I hear fans crying about CMC and DJ all the times now, trade Burns and you might get more of the same.

When you have to dig that hard to find a positive for keeping a player you've already lost. He benefits from whatever pressure Derek Brown can create up the middle.  Except Derek hardly ever comes off the field. Burns gets to rest his ass on the sidelines every other play. In the meantime Brown is out there making tackles because everyone else seems to be adverse to doing.

Block win percentage is pretty basic. They just use a percentage to account for opportunities.  Burns was 6th in the league....

Brown is the most important by far.  We need to extend him ASAP!

It is true about the opportunities, situational stuff. It's turning our strengths against us. That is a nice trick if you can do it.The only way to get the opponents off of that horse is to score points.

We benefit most from having Burns when he is rushing the passer, his strength. That is it. And it follows that our goal needs to be to force that situation. Get him in a tee off scenario.

It all comes back to impotency of the offense. You know, all those guys and coaches not named Bryce, need to step it up.

[Man I get tired of the negatives all the time, but where are the positives? It’s like you have to make them up.]

You cannot say the defense is on the field too much because of the crappy offense and claim the defense doesn't get enough opportunities to make plays.

You want to force them to pass so you can tee off? Stop them from running on you.

You cannot stop the run? Then stop whining and gtfo.

julian weighs in on burns today.  All in all the situation is pretty bleak and totally mismanaged.  Holy fug fat fitterer was horrible at his job

cliff notes: best case is to figure out a deal, the tag is going to be expensive in regards to our cap and letting him walk would suck but would be easier to sign free agents and rework other deals

Letting Burns walk is unfortunately the best option

Burns was seeking a long-term deal with an average salary of close to $30 million last season, according to a source with knowledge of the negotiations. The two sides never got close. With Carolina expected to have about $39 million in cap space, it seems unlikely it will dedicate that much now to one player since they have so many other needs.

Canales, Morgan and new cap manager Brandt Tillis are evaluating all options, understanding their first draft pick is at No. 33 and there are no immediate plans to move into the first round. Having those three united could help get an extension for Burns. A source familiar with the team structure last season said the former staff didn't have that unity.

McDonald's iced coffee is low-key not bad for the price.

It beats paying for overpriced mid coffee from Starbucks and Dunkin.

This is how I feel about Burns. For the right price he can be McDonald's iced coffee. Pretty good for the price.

If he's expensive then he's just Starbucks. Mid player with a expensive price. That's a no no.

Damn, I thought about $5 bucks (inc. tax) was high. Shows what I know.

Starbucks should be banned from selling coffee.

It was cool 5 years ago. Now I feel like most people just go there because it's the cool thing to do. Nothing cool about paying $7 for some average coffee.

1.8M for 2nd round pick. How can you replace a player making 900k but the cap difference number stays the same at 1.8M? You’re replacing 6 players that were making 5.4M with 6 that are making 6.5M. Simple math. Have no clue what they even mean with those numbers. Wouldn’t be the first time Sportrac screwed up numbers.

How are they making 86K as a cap hit for 2024? That’s not possible.

I got you now about the 1.8 vs 900 deal. Sometimes a drafted class does increase the 51 floor, but I understand your point point that -900k + 1.8 doesnt = +1.8

I believe a big part of the issue is the signing bonus counts no matter. Thats the 86k hit, its a portion of allotted SB. Its guaranteed and spent, unlike the per game contract were you can get cut anyday during.

Plus another deal we are missing is early drafted rookies contracts are nearly all guaranteed, unlike if you signed a 5th year guy. That 33rd drafted player will get 10 million if hes cut during TC and that counts against the cap. That maybe why its 1.8 cause the SB and contract are fully guaranteed(*nearly)

Also I noticed during the season the panthers had 1-2 spots left open on game days. Then you got PS call ups and form what I know they get more money up to 4 times a year. Again taking cap space. I think there are veteran exceptions about paying more while the cap number is listed lower, which makes understanding it harder too.

I'm defiantly a fan of the Non-exclusive franchise tag. If Burns thinks he's worth $30 million a season, then allow him to test the market to see if another team will offer it. If he does, then we can match the offer sheet or let him go but get 2 1st from the team that signs him.

Burns is a good player, and I would love to have him back on a fair deal but his lack of a take over a game skill set makes him not worth $30 million a year. During the 1st half against ATL in week 1 Burns flashed the ability to take over a game like other $30 million a year pass rushers do but that was the only time he's ever shown the ability to do that.

If the compensation was 2 firsts we need to take it.  We have Brown to resign as well as Luvu and we need to build an entire offense basically.
Maybe even 1 first would do it if mid round.

I don’t like the idea of letting good players walk but his asking price is too expensive for what he has done here

    • At this rate, maybe he'll be a decent 8-9 QB on his 3rd HC by year 6. Standards are so low around here now. Tepper has done some serious damage to the fan base.
