5 favorite panthers of all time

89=#1

Recommended Posts

All Time:

1. Sam Mills - big heart and a very excellent player. Helped define what a carolina panther should be. We were just an expansion franchise at that point, he turned us into a real football team.

2. Steve Smith - Nobody wants the ball more than he does. When we're out of games he's one of the only guys we have still giving it his all. His fire and passion is unmatched. If he doesn't make the Hall of Fame he certainly should be given a statue. I know that's big talk for a guy that's had some issues but we won't ever have another player like him for a long time.

3. Julius Peppers - The hometown hero. A freak of nature. If he had smith's passion he'd probably kill people. It's dissapointing when he has his funks but when he's on that bull rush is so damned impressive. I hope he goes into the Hall of Fame as panther.

4a. Jake Delhome - unforunately his history is a tulmultuous one. I'm afraid he'll be remembered more for his follies than his victories. He was very special at times. He should have been benched but it was never his decision, all he did was give it his all.

4b. Wesley Walls - amazing player, a true icon for the panthers. He's far better than Jake, but Jake pulls ahead due to 2003. I just can't not have jake on here. But Walls deserves mad props.

5a. John Kasay - been around forver. Will be a mainstay in the charlotte comunity. Again defines what a carolina panther is.

5b. Steve Beuerlein - again just a great guy. He's near the bottom because he was really a journeyman who found a niche here. He's a great guy who made his home here.

5c. Mike Minter/Mike Rucker - the #5 area is really just for the great guys that I can't bare to leave out. They wern't All pro every year but they were pretty good in their prime. They've made their homes here and they'll be great leaders for years to come. Maybe even coaches.

Jon Beason, and Deangelo Williams will probably move up into this list but it's not their time yet. If Stewart stays he'll go jointly with Williams.

1.) Steve Smith (The best WR our team ever has in history so far.)

2.) Sam Mills (What more can you say about him? 'Nuff said!)

3.) DeAngelo Williams (He has seem to gotten better than Stephen Davis now.)

4.) Jake Delhomme (He suck lately, but he was the best during his early years & before the surgery. Best QB in our franchise IMHO.)

5.) Julius Peppers (His name said it all. One hell of a DE.)

Honorable mentions: Kevin Greene, Jon Beason, Jonathan Stewart, Wesley Walls, & Kasay.

God, there so many to list that this would be a top 10 or 20 here. :D :D

Don't know why I've never searched for a Panther's message board, came across it just now in a google search for something about the team. Been a fan since day 1 and a die hard since season 2, as you will see why in my list of favorite players.

5. Kasay

4. Moose

3. Peppers

2. Smitty

1. And my all time favorite Panther hasn't been mentioned once in this thread, and unfortunately for a good reason, but he's still my #1 and always will be.

Tshimanga Biakabutuka

I visited the HOF the year before we came into the league, liked the logo and bought a mini helmet, and then followed the team in the first year. I grew up a Michigan fan and he was my favorite player there, so when we took him in the second year I was hooked, been a die hard ever since. I rotate my Smitty jersey and my authentic Biakabutuka jersey after losses, but always start the season out with the Biakabutuka. Watching the games at bars here in Michigan the jersey is always a nice conversation starter as many people here still remember him as one of the best Michigan backs of all time. Had he not had the knee problems I have no doubt in my mind that he would have been a complete stud and have led us to a Super Bowl.

    • I didn't say much bigger. Watch the highlights I linked. Bryce doesn't have the arm strength and/or talent to make the vast majority of the throws Mac made in that video.
    • Tetairoa McMillan.   The last 28 1st overall picks were either a QB, DE, or OT. Seeing as I don't think we'd take an OT in the 1st and give up on Ickey as an LT yet and there doesn't seem to be a clear overall #1 type of QB or DE pick this year, it very well could be a non conventional #1 overall this year, at least in regards from the last almost 3 decades of drafts. If we didn't have Horn, I'd be more open to Hunter as a CB at #1, but we have him so another CB wouldn't be how I'd use a #1 pick.  And as much as I love Legette, if we have SB contending aspirations, I don't think Legette is a #1 on a team like that, but he damn sure is an elite #2 on a team like that.  He's more of the Smith/Higgins/Waddle to Brown/Chase/Hill (in terms of role/impact, not style of play of course). T-Mac is going to be the top ranked WR on every team's board in the end.  He is going to be a true outside #1 WR who is viewed as a consensus Top 5 WR in the game by his second contract in the same way guys like Jefferson and Chase have done.  His height combined with his speed, athleticism, and hands are near impossible to find all in one player, there is a reason his generally used comp is Mike Evans (although as he's not as thick, I personally see him more as an AJ Green). Yes, as an Arizona alum I've admitted to having bias towards the player to begin with.  But he's also someone very widely being put into the Top 5 in mock drafts lately and most of them have him as the first non QB offensive player being taken, so it's not really THAT much of a homer pick on my part anyways. If a QB or DE truly separate themselves as being a can't miss prospect come draft day, I'm open to that discussion, but until then, or if it doesn't happen, T-Mac is my pick 100 times out of 100.
