Is Moore as great as Jake was ?

Only time will tell.

But Moore is a better option than an aging Jake with all his INTs last season!

Was Jake a great QB that all loved when he was brought in.

No

Jake was an older backup QB that could not make it as a starter or beat out Aaron Brooks

But Jake was a better QB than an aging Rodney Peete.

Not a Jake Lover /Hater

But its time to move on

How do you know how good/great anyone will be ,untill they have their chance

That's all fine and well, but what stuns me are the people already convinced Moore is going to pan out. Will he? I don't know, but I hope so. Moore's success/failure is not going to be measured against Jake this year. That's the argument up 'til now...he's better than Jake. Swell! In 2010 that comparsion drops and ole boy is going to have to sink or swim solely on what he does alone...not against Jake's ghost here in Carolina. As of yet, I have no idea what he's going to do and I seem to find it had to believe he's Dolly Parton in the water as many of you do. I'm just saying if he does start sinking (again, I hope he doesn't...I'm rooting for him) where is this year's Matt Moore to come off the bench and right the ship?

Getting back on topic, that's the reason I'm not sold on the notion the QB spot is solid on the depth chart.

These are the only people I see as having proved themselves to be worth keeping thus far.

Have we forgotten the bread and butter of this team? All the tools are still there to be the best rushing team in football. Steve Smith still plays for the Panthers and Matt Moore is not noodle-armed, turnover-machine Jake Delhomme. The O-Line is still a huge strength of the team and as long as Jarrett can block and make a couple key grabs, our offense is actually BETTER than last year.

Now as for defense, we did lose Peppers, and he can't be replaced. The pass rush won't suffer that much because Everette Brown and Charles Johnson are good players, but they benefited from playing with the frequently double-teamed Peppers. I don't think we will suffer up the middle, but a large veteran DT should be brought in just in case these young DTs we have don't pan out. The secondary is the same and they are a middle of the pack kind of group in terms of the rest of the league.

We might not be 12-4, but we won't be 4-12. The schedule is also a lot easier than last year. I'm not expecting a bad year, but the only way the Panthers suck is if Moore plays like Jake did last year.

Again, based off what...Moore is not Delhomme? All things else is a net wash...at least thus far, so Moore not being Delhomme makes the offense better? This is not Madden, so accured seasons doesn't make you necessarily better.

Take the QB equation out for one moment, you are suggesting as of now, the offense is better with no addititons?

The Quaterback equation was what made the offense bad last season.

Can't score points or keep drives going when you throw to the other team .

So removing that factor makes the equation better.

I'm not saying Moore will be a superstar,he will be on a learning curve

as was Jake when he became a starter.

But what other options were/are avaliable ?

The change at QB was the main reason I think the offense will be better, and it is addition by subtraction. That is, subtraction of the gross amount of turnovers committed by the former starting QB.

That and I don't think Jarrett is as bad as everyone thinks. He's the age that a normal rookie draft pick is at 23, and he's been in the NFL for three seasons. Hopefully he's learned some things in that time and can finally live up to his hype, and I think he will.

sometimes i'm not quite sure why i spend my time reading these ridiculous speculative threads. but then i realize that i'm just trying to kill time... yet i still want to rip my own eyes out. i just don't understand why so many people are freaked out by our roster. there are at least eight other teams with worse situations than the panthers. i often think back to 2007 when Eli Manning led the giants to the super bowl... those giants, osi and all of those defensive players, were complete unknowns to me. none of them were big name players really except for Eli, Strahan, Burress, and maybe Antonio Pierce. just because we have players that are unknowns, doesn't mean they won't strap on that helmet and go to work...

But they are not VETS...

So they can't play football ...

One wonders how a VET got a chance to become a VET !

L O L

like most other good teams they are worked into the scheme around other vets. you know like normal football. are we just to start a all rookie team or something?

You people that are convinced the Panthers are doing the "right thing" crack me up. How the hell do you put a positive spin on: deep sixing your entire D line, no number one pick to grab a starter and Matt Moore?? Mental masturbation is fun, I guess!! Barring some unforeseen move and some magic, best case the Panthers will break even next year.

    • Fair enough. I never once said not supporting Tepper makes you a bad fan by the way. I can't stand the guy myself. You on the other hand don't like anything about the team. You can't stand the owner or the coach because his religion doesn't fall in line with how you feel it should so I'm curious why you are even a fan at this point? Hell, you like nothing about the team, why even be a fan these days?  We can go backs and forth about how many games we have been to and measure dicks if you want or but it doesn't matter. I've been to my fair share over the years. Some as a fan and some work related but I bet you have been to more due to my weekends being filled with some work I do at the collegiate level so I probably only average maybe 2-3 games per year tops. You have me beat there im sure. You are probably very correct on us not being the same in anything at all I am quite sure of that. If I'm a "mark" (as you put it) for not liking Tepper and not caring about Canales religion or his political beliefs or letting it have weight on whether or not I like the team then call me a "mark" but you're still a whiny bitch either way.  When you hate everything about leadership from their personalities to their religious beliefs all the way to who they vote for at that point why even be a fan? I can side with you judging by your beliefs that you have made apparent, if you owned and coached the team, I sure as hell would find a new one to support but as you said we are different. Enjoy Norway, it is a beautiful country. Visited last year myself and absolutely loved it.
    • The playing well part, depends on what happens going forward. It could have been a tease that will dig our hole deeper.  In the small picture of one game, probably his best game. Green Bay wasn't as great as people think it was. More like one good quarter. Followed by two games of exactly nothing.
    • Oh, it was handled horrifically.  Ego got in the way of a plan.  I'm just saying, that he actually probably stumbled into the better outcome/plan.
