We might as well start making predictions for next season

While I am some what disturbed by Hoov being released, I see the reasoning for it. I also don't think that his release is going to be the reason we go 5-11.

Hoover was a hell of a good player for the Panther's for a long time. The last two years though he has battled pretty serious back problems. Sutton can play FB and Fiammetta was drafted to take Hoovers place. I believe we will be fine.

Absolute worst case scenario, both of our RB's run just as well in a single RB backfield as they do with a FB.

We have a good young QB, a great young OL, pass-catching TE's, and we still have one of the most dominate WR's in the league. FA is not over and the draft is still ahead of us. There is no reason to worry about the O.

On D we have a bit of a ? on the DL, but there is young and promising talent at DT and DE. Our LB's are some of the best in the league, not having Diggs will probably make us better, Anderson and Connor have both shown a lot of promise. The secondary is still intact, the only real issue with them is FS and hopefully Fox will replace Godfrey with Martin. Also still a lot of FA left and the draft which is exceptionally deep this year.

I will worry about the Panthers when they start trading Beason, Davis, Gamble, Gross, or Wharton. Until then they are getting younger and creating competition and using this uncapped year just as they should have. To get away from the salary cap hell they have been in the last few years.

wait till after the draft and all moves have been made before throwing out the doom and gloom for next season. It's cost cutting for the most part that's happened so far and even if the team only signs low level guys and has a decent draft they could have a nice team next season. If all goes as planned and they fill the holes and depth on the team, I could see 9-7 or 10-6.

.

It would not surprise me to even see Carolina try to trade back the number 2 pick.

JR is getting settled to weather the holdout that is coming. It is expected to be a lengthy holdout. The NFLPA reportdly has been saving money for the last several years, in order to holdout. They have $200 million to tide them over during the holdout. In the long run, this is will be the best answer for our team.

Players have been way overpaid for a long time. With ticket revenue in decline, then cuts have to be made. The NBA and MLB are all looking at doing similar cuts.

You know I was the voice of reason as well before this move. Someone (I have no idea who) is completely gutting this team of all veterans regardless (I think the only reason Smith is safe is we have nothing behind him). Its not all about talent. Yes I think Tony has more talent but he has yet to show that on the field. Its also about team chemistry and this off-season has completely ripped a huge chunk in it.

I am with you SMF for once this was one cut that pretty much told me what this FO thought about our season.

I had to do a double take when I got on. Stupid IMO. Even for a team trying to weather the storm (this was his last year of his minuscule deal).

He had two things going against him, he was over 28-29 and was making right at a million this season counting his 100k bonus.

Vetrans? We still have Beason, Davis, Gross, Wharton,Smith,Gamble,Harris etc. We have numerous vetrans.

All of the players that we released had there best years behind them. All the players we released (besides peppers) can be replaced.

I consider a vet 30+ (just because this is the age most positions are considered old or on the back 9 on average and teams tend to let them go). Believe what you want but I know these moves aren't coming from Fox/Hurney and if there not in control it means we are witnessing a lame duck FO. And that pretty much means we have 0 chance of winning a SB most likely we wont even make the playoffs.

For all the doom and gloom, I actually went back and looked at the games when hoover was out. Willams/Stewart(whoever was the starter), actually averaged over 100+ yards in each of those games. I think hoov was great, but also was getting old and had a bad back. It's better to do this a year early than a year late imo.
