JR is on a mission....

I've always heard about how old steam engines could just shake themselves apart when they wore out, but I didn't think I'd ever see it happen.

It's like the FO is storming around shouting, "Change?!?! You want change? Here! Choke on it!"

The only Panthers jersey I'd buy right now would be one with a big ol' question mark on it instead of a number.

Yeah, some of you think this is a fire sale and JR is just out not to spend money this year.

Well that is complete rubbish, pardon my language.

JR got a new heart and a new lease on life. It began last season by poo canning his sons, a warning shot across the bow of everyone elsein the organization. Season goes by with little success, but what success there is comes from the younger players. Moore, J-Stew, Sutton, Beason, Captain, etc.

So guess what, JR is poo canning the dead weight. If you are not helping, you are hurting and you gots to go. You don't haave to go home, but you have to get the fug out of Carolina.

Watch out boys and girls, JR is a sleeping giant and will be bringing a lombardi home to Carolina sooner rather than later.

You're my boy, Jerry. You're my boy. Keep doing what you do.

Love,

Zod

I agree with the concept, but I don't think it's just Jerry.

If Hurney and Fox weren't on-board, we'd likely see some indication of it, intentional or not.

Why in the world would he want to make sure that Fox can't win in 2010? He can get rid of Fox any time he choses.

That has to be the most ridiculous arguement I have heard so far today....and that is really saying something.

It's not as far-fetched as you propose. I guarantee Fox/Hurney are not 100% behind these cuts, because they do not have time to let these unexperienced guys to come in to start for the first time in a lame duck season. This is Richardson, essentially taking a whole season to walk Fox/Hurney to the door. Fox wouldn't make it harder on himself to win this season.. this is exactly what these cuts are doing. Fox doesn't have the luxury or time time to develop these unproven guys.

Richardson is paving the way for someone like Cowher.. it seems apparant to me.

Breaking down in sobbing tears at the presser could lead one to suspect they might not have been all the way on board with it... It could of course just be genuine emotion at seeing him leave, which I believe is the case. I'm just playing devil's advocate here...

However, the guys that will be replacing these players are not unexperienced.

Leonard and Tyler have been starters in the NFL.

Anderson has been here 4 years and has had many starts...playing well.

I will give you Brown....however, I still think we bring in a vet DE. Not a big name players, but much like we did with Brayton.

Hoover...I will give you this one. I love Hoover and I think he can still play. It is difficult to carry 3 FB's and you have to make a tough choice. They drafted Fiametta to replace Hoover, so you don't let a young player like that go. Sutton looked great at the end of last year. Hoover got caught up in a numbers game. His health and Salary made him expendable.

Kicking his sons out was a big clue.

Instructing Fox to fire Crossman was another hint.

Now it has become obvious over the past week, this is all JR. He is calling all the major shots now. We can debate his "plan" all we want to but we can not debate who is in the big chair anymore.

If there is work stoppage then the Panthers need to really know how good these young guys are. No sense in waiting until the first year under a new CBA to find out.

I think they need to know in order to prepare in the event that some of these young guys are not as good as they thought that they are supposed to be.

The verterans will be getting older and the team knows what they can bring to the table. The only thing that these veterans will do in an off year is get older and slower.

I'll believe it when we start actually pulling in some talent over the next couple weeks.

If that doesn't happen, he's just throwing away this season to save some money. In addition to no salary cap this year... there's no salary floor either (and yes, there was one in the CBA until this year.).

I was going to post over the weekend a theory I had about what all was going on in the Panther's FO but I decided not to. I think now, and in this thread, is a good place so here goes.

At the end of the season, I think JR and Morrison went to Hurney and Fox and said "This isn't working." They gave Hurney and Fox the time from the end of the season until the start of the league year to lay out a plan on how they would try and turn this up and down team into a constant contender. What we have seen over the last 5 days is a result of that plan.

Here is something very important that not too many posters seem to forget. Hurney's contract doesn't end at the end of the 2010 season. It ends on May 1, 2010. My guess would be that within the next month Hurney is given an extention, if not already. If that does happen, it wouldn't surprise me if Fox also got an extention.

If this was Hurney and Fox's plan, albeit forced, then this isn't a fire sale or JR trying to save money, which doesn't make any sense to begin with if you understand any part of the "lockout" year. This is what many believed it to be in the very begining and what Zod is refering to, a youth movement. (By the way the Packers did this a couple of seasons back and ended up in the championship game the very next season.)

The bottom line is that Hurney's contract is a big deal and we as fans will know something more concret well before mini-camp.
