Hi all, hope everyone is well. I made my first official mock of the season over on USA Today. This is without a ton of intel other than what positions they value moving forward, but I thought it would be fun to give a little of my input on players I have studied and throw out some good picks with us. I really love our first pick here, and it's a guy who I really feel has a first round skillset.

@Verge how many and which WRs you think will be going in the first? just curious. i'm thinking as many as 5-6. hard to imagine that there would be more than that but as good as this class is it could happen.

the fact that it's also so deep makes me think that some teams will feel good about waiting a little to get one they like.

Harrison
Nabers
Odunze
Thomas Jr.
Coleman
Mitchell
Franklin

Plus one or two others could easily be first rounders. My guess right now is six but I could definitely see eight.

@Verge last season I non-stopped asked you to be joking each time you listed young to the panthers. Now you got another 5'8 dwarf heading to the panthers for their first pick this year. Why must you hurt me.......1701150154216175.jpg.657fabcd442b3c115f0d6951c3e00d44.jpg

This isn't based on any real source or anything. I just really really like Washington and he was there when we picked in this mock I did lol

I expect every thread on the huddle to turn into a Bryce Young height thread at this point.

I will say, Houston definitely had Young as their QB1.

Young was QB1 on a lot of boards. Some people are just wanting to rewrite history around here.

Damn, I really wish we could rewrite history. Personally, I am not a QB so all I wanted was a rookie QB. I wasn’t happy giving up what we did either, but that was likely more from being pissed that we didn’t tank (trade Burns, CMC and DJ for 3 1sts and 2 2nds) and that we could have likely used the Burns trade/value to move up and still have the 2024 1st. I will say that in hindsight, I’m shocked Yoong was QB1. His arm strength was shocking to watch.

I still don't believe Huston wanted Young. Huston was taking the 1st qb to fall to them. The Bears only had interest from Huston and us for the 1st pick. If we hadn't been snooping around I bet Huston stays put at 2 and takes whoever they wanted. The Bears surely were not drafting a qb. So either Young or Stroud are taken 1st at 2 and the other goes to Indy. We most likely get Richardson, but it's possible we still have Young on the board at 9.  We will never know now of course.

Huston?

Corley almost certainly won't last that long, but in this mock he did.

Agree, he is being talked about all over the place.  He will go early enough to remove the later round steal label IMHO

    • Strange, every news article and tweet I just searched all mentioned waivers. It is definitely his sixth year of at least 6 games. All I was trying to think of earlier was at the vet min could he beat out Bryce in camp next year lol. He's kinda got the old Darnold issue where he can obviously launch deep balls and qb run at a level Bryce will never achieve, but it sounds like he would be content being like a Josh Allen backup who doesn't throw the whole game plan out the window if he has to come in for a series or two. If we had him and for some reason still wanted to start Bryce he would kinda do what Justin Fields was doing the other night with Dangeruss, coming in for designed runs and maybe some play action/triple option rpo things to go deep. That would be so obvious and sad though. At least Russ can still sling it 40 yards in the air with a flick of the wrist
    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
