Patrick Willis makes interesting comments on David Carr

Free-agent quarterback David Carr, a former Carolina Panther, left 49ers headquarters Saturday without a contract. For now, his souvenirs from Santa Clara include a few barbs from All-Pro linebacker Patrick Willis.

Willis questioned the 49ers' interest in Carr with several pointed comments on his Twitter account. In one post, Willis wrote: "I'm saying if we going to go get another qb spend money on a difference maker. Like ( Michael Vick). My opinion."

In another: "We have 3 qb's that are better then him. That's a waste of his time."

The 49ers had no comment on Willis' postings.

Carr is no prize for sure but to assume that Vick would be the answer just took away Willis credibilty as well. Both Smith and Hill are nothing to get excited about, still they put up as good or better numbers than Vick did in his prime. The 49ers have really fallen from the glory days of Montana and Young.

I'd rather have Vick than Carr.

In a recent Atlanta radio appearance, Vick said his preference would be to join the Carolina Panthers, who have not been among the teams most frequently linked to him, whatever that means.

"Well, you know, it's close to home. I like the uniforms. You get to play against Atlanta twice a year. Ain't nothing better than playing against your former team, right? So, yeah, that would be a good look, it would be a good look," Vick said on Atlanta's Hot 107.9 FM

The 49ers sign Carr.

Backup QB David Carr has agreed to a two-year contract with the 49ers, according to a league source.

Carr spent Friday and Saturday visiting with the 49ers, but he left without a contract.

Carr is from nearby Bakersfield and played at Fresno State before becoming the No. 1 overall draft pick by the Texans in 2002. Carr spent five seasons with the Texans before stops with the Panthers (2007) and Giants (2008-09).
