If we got a second for Marshall...

Jason Avant is an RFA and was tendered at a 2nd rd level. we could sign him in FA and send whichever 2nd rd pick to the eagles, and still have a 2nd rd pick.

also tendered at the 2nd rd level:

Lance Moore-27

Brad Smith-26

Mark Clayton-28

Sam Hurd-25

Mark Bradlet-28

I'm sure there are more than this but couldnt find them.

Rather draft a second round receiver than have any of those guys.

so if we got a 2nd for marshall and then signed jason avant/whoever, took someone like jerry hughes(DE) in the 2nd and then mardy gilyard/andre roberts/dezmon briscoe in the 3rd...you wouldnt be happy with that?

If we traded Marshall, we'd be screwed at the CB spot. Even if Captain does step up as a reliable #2, we'd need a nickel to fill in his spot.

Wash year= They dont care if we suck.

The are rebuilding and want more picks. Bottom line.

Yea that sound plausible, but it wont happen.

And deep down, you know it wont happen.

But I'd like to draft someone with alot of upside and potential. I know what those players bring to the table. And the BEST they bring is slightly above average.

I think you are way off base.

We cut dead weight with young and athletic guys to fill the spots.

Yeah, I don't get why so many are freaking out about the guys we let go and talking about us being in re-build mode. Like you said, we cut guys in which we have young talent waiting in the wings. And not one person that was let go or not re-signed (with the exception of Peppers) are core guys. We still have our backfield, OL, TE's, DB's, Davis, Beason, Smitty, and of course Moore, who many feel can be the QB of the future. So all is not lost.

Lets take a look:

Jake was already being replaced, cutting him was an obvious future cap move.

Kemo was likely done regardless. It is very unlikely he'll ever be the player he was, that's if he even is able to continue playing. And Leonard looked good in his short time as Kemo's replacement, so shouild likely be a solid NT.

Lewis was solid, but nothing more. At best he is ideally suited for a rotational role, and has been miscast as a starter the last couple of years. But at his age, he was already showing signs of slowing down. And with Tyler and Irvin we have a couple of guys that can hopefully step up. Tyler has started and looked good prior to his injury, and Irvin was raw, but talented and needed to get stronger, which should be benefited by his redshirt year.

Diggs is a good player, but he is also starting to get old. And the thing is, that once these players start getting some age on them, they tend to go down fast...especially the ones that aren't that athletic to begin with, like Diggs. And with Connor and Anderson waiting in the wings, we should be fine...especially since in our defense Davis and Beason are the real workhorses.

Many wanted Johnson gone last year, and he really won't be missed.

Brayton would be a loss, but we haven't even lost him yet, so we'll have to wait and see. Nevertheless, I think Johnson is ready to step up in the starting role, and we should be able to find a situational guy to come in for a year or two to rotate.

No other way to say it, but Peppers will be a big loss. He may not have been worth 20 million, but he was still a top DE, and we will feel the hole he left. With that said, Everette Brown was really picking it up by the end of last season, and with an entire offseason to add size and get stronger, he should be able to be an effective pass rusher to mitigate Peppers' loss.

Moose may yet come back, but even if he doesn't, we needed an upgrade anyway. At this point, he is probably best suited as a #3 receiver, but since we rarely go 3 wide, he really would not be a huge loss. And despite so many being down on Jarrett, he actually was a pretty good blocker, so could pick up some of that slack. We are also almost certain to pick up some receiver help in the draft and possibly in FA as well. We don't need a superstar here, just someone that can get open and make the catch to take some of the pressure off Smitty.

Vincent was ok, but he is not a very good pass protector. And Bernadeau proved he is at worst a solid OG and should be at least as good as Vincent. Not to mention the fact that Robinson likely benefited from his redshirt year, and should be a viable backup.

Also, we're not the only team that is releasing some of their vets with bad contracts. And not all of them will be scrubs. There is still some talent that will be cut loose in the coming weeks and after the draft, and many of those players will be available on the cheap. So just because we haven't made a big splash yet (when do we ever this early in FA) doesn't mean we will not bring in some talent to fill in the holes.

I think if we were going to give up a 2nd round pick for a WR it would have been for Boldin. I like L.Moore and Avant as mid-level cheap FAs but none of those guys listed are worth giving up 2nd round picks for. I think you're better off just drafting someone, this years draft is really deep at WR.

no keep marshall he was are second leading tackler and is still young and captain would have to take his spot even captain is good he is a only 5 foot 8 inches which is kinda small and then we would have no 3d string coner. if we do trade marshall i think we should move sherrod martain back to corner

and at least re-sign Dante Wesley to be sure we have a #3 CB maybe #2. Id still try to get a 2nd for marshall, move martin to CB, re-sign Wesley, trade one of our 2nd rd picks to Phily for Avant, draft a WR, DT, or DE with our other 2nd rd pick, then either a WR, DT, or DE with our 3rd rd pick.
