Smitty vs. Fitzgerald

Ok don't even say he was in bonds there is no way he was only a blind Carolina love would have you believe that.

You're obviously being a homer by saying that. The referees called it correctly when they saw it, and then called it correctly AGAIN when it was reviewed. And trust me, the refs aren't Carolina homers.

As an Cardinals Fan and Season ticket holder, I will admit that Smith's tight rope walk down the sidelines in game 1 was the right call. I could have sworn as the play happened he stepped out of bounds....but when they showed the High Def Replays, well I couldn't argue with the call. It was one of the most amazing displays of knowing your surroundings, and body control!

Lets just face it they are both great!

The best part of each of those guys is they are team players and just go about doing their jobs and don't act like TO or Ocho Cinco.

Let me preface this by saying I love Steve Smith, draft him almost every year in my fantasy league, and have huge respect for the Panthers. I've said this in other threads...if the Cardinals weren't in the playoffs the Panthers would be who I'd be routing for. If the Panthers win, AS THEY SHOULD, I'll hate em a bit and then route them through to the Superbowl.

That being said, this is one of the biggest homer threads I've read in a long time. Smith is a top receiver in the NFL right now, but no self-respecting, non-Carolina fan in the NFL would trade Fitz for Smith even. I'll take Fitz's 79 yd/game career avg over Smith's 69 yds/game, and Fitz's 46 TD's in 76 games vs. Smith's 43 TD's in 106 games every time.

For those of you saying Smith get's doubled more than Fitz...it's not true. Look it up. Fitz gets doubled more than anyone but A. Johnson, Smith is 4th.

For those of you saying Fitz benefits from having Boldin being on the other side...see above plus don't you think without Boldin Fitz would have some of Boldin's 11 TD's and 1000+ yards. In addition, we have Breaston with 3 more TD's and 1000+ yards.

For those ultimate Homer's bringing up Fitz's "off the field problems". This old TMZ news has been so dispelled it's amazing it came up. Nothing came of it...he didn't even have to be suspended by his team for 2 games (sorry I had too, Bright and Lucas approve!) Fitz and Warner hang out all the time and are 2 of the classiest guys in the NFL...sports even. I sat behind Warner and Fitz at a Sun's game last year and to see these guys interact with fans, especially kids, for 3 hrs was amazing.

Good luck Saturday, may the game be exciting and injury-free. Steve Smith is great. Fitz is greater, and may end up being the greatest. YA HOMERS!!!

So, you would take 79 yds per game in a pass happy offense....over a 69 yds per game average in a run first offense? I don't think so.

Who cares who would post a better 'score' in a combine style competition? What GM in the league would take Fitzgerald over Smith? Fitz is an awesome receiver, but, with respect to the guy, doesn't have the big play potential that Smitty has.

Dry Heat, don't try to act like you're not being a homer either. Pretty much everyone posting in this thread is being a homer, and so am I. Cards fans want to just throw around numbers and say that Fitzgerald is better. Well statistics are for people who don't watch the games. Steve Smith has the intangibles (that Fitzgerald doesn't), he makes the clutch big plays time and time again, he's the most competitive player in the league. He's the best receiver playing right now.

Way wrong there buddy. I promise you there is NO GM in the game who would take a 30yr old Smith over a 25 year old Fitz. Our guy hasn't even hit his prime yet. Stop hating.

Smith may have the intangibles that Fitz doesn't (which he doesn't because Fitz is a ballsy dude and works harder than anyone) but Fitz definitely has the tangibles that Steve lacks. You can say "for his size he is great at this and great at that", but that doesn't mean squat what you produce is what you produce plain and simple. I guarentee he doesn't bring his size into it. I have a great post game, but am only 5-8. Someone who is 6-8 may have far less skills, but they are still the better post player. Smith is the better reciever from 80yds out, but Fitz is undoubtably the better one within the QB's arm range because he outmuscles and outjumps everyone (including Smith).

Either way, this thread will never end. I dont know who is better, but they are just too different of players to make that call. What amazes me most is that you guys are only talking about Fitz. Most Cardinal fans will tell you that Boldin is the better player---Oh and he IS the toughest SOB in the NFL.

BTW-- The best WR in the world is Andre Johnson.

i was actually gonna say that fitz isn't even the best player on his team... but this is a pointless argument cuz panthers fans will side with smith and cards fans will side with fitz. i stand by my statement though that i'd take either one and run with it

Are there any panthers fans in here to back me up? This guy is trying to tell me that Fitzgerald has the same, and better, intangibles as Steve Smith.

p.s. last time I checked, height is a tangible trait.

It's prolly time to hit the "ignore" button now. We all know who is what and how he does it. That's all that matters.
