Smitty vs. Fitzgerald

smith is also more physical...from attacking the ball in the air, to dragging DBs around the field on his back, to punishing guys on blocks. his sideline play is flat out sick and i love the crazy stiff arms smith utilizes. the 2005 bears playoff game and last week against NO show me everything i need to see when determining who i think goes up and get's balls better between smith and fitz.

never seen a guy so ramped up for every single snap. lightening in a bottle is an understatement when describing smitty.

Smith Demands more Coverage in games and I've never seen Fitz catch a ball sitting down. No one extends like Smith and attacks the ball IMO and as good as Fitz is he still dose not demand the respect Smith dose. I think people just expect Smith now to do what other WRs do with single coverage because he has been doubled for so many seasons now. IMO Moss and Smith are still the best WRs in the game because of how you have to play them but Fitz is a close second and has had a great season this year.

if smith had a receiver like Boldin on the other side, would you double him still? it's damn near impossible to double Ftiz w/o Boldin lighting u up on the other side. it's a virtual tie for me

are you guys just trying to not sound like homers? because i think it's pretty obvious that smith is notches above fitz in most aspects of the game. runs better routes, more physical, much better YAC. fitz probably has softer hands but i wouldn't trade that for smith's big play ability.

fitz only has 10 more yards than smith, with 2 more games played.

True, but Arizona spreads its passes around more than we do, as well as throwing a higher percentage of short passes.

Their number three guy has a 1000 yards.

Both are great, but I would favor Smith because of his ability to run after the catch.

Fitz is taller and has bigger hands........is also more of a student of the game than Smith. My bet is that because of his physical attributes he might be a better target to pull a jump ball down than Smitty but not by much.

Smith is tougher and stronger...........he is also faster after the catch with the best open field moves in football.

It could be a wash in who I would pick....but I think I'd side with Smitty because of his overall skills after the catch exceed those of Fitz...

They are two of the best ever at their craft and the the best currently in the NFL.......

i think that's more than made up for by how much more carolina runs than arizona.

i saw the numbers earlier but forget them now, i believe it was 93 (ish) catches for fitz and 78(ish) for smith. but they're about equal in yards. that says a lot for smith's big plays.

but i will say fitz is a much better red zone threat. he has twice as many tds.

    • I didn't say much bigger. Watch the highlights I linked. Bryce doesn't have the arm strength and/or talent to make the vast majority of the throws Mac made in that video.
    • Tetairoa McMillan.   The last 28 1st overall picks were either a QB, DE, or OT. Seeing as I don't think we'd take an OT in the 1st and give up on Ickey as an LT yet and there doesn't seem to be a clear overall #1 type of QB or DE pick this year, it very well could be a non conventional #1 overall this year, at least in regards from the last almost 3 decades of drafts. If we didn't have Horn, I'd be more open to Hunter as a CB at #1, but we have him so another CB wouldn't be how I'd use a #1 pick.  And as much as I love Legette, if we have SB contending aspirations, I don't think Legette is a #1 on a team like that, but he damn sure is an elite #2 on a team like that.  He's more of the Smith/Higgins/Waddle to Brown/Chase/Hill (in terms of role/impact, not style of play of course). T-Mac is going to be the top ranked WR on every team's board in the end.  He is going to be a true outside #1 WR who is viewed as a consensus Top 5 WR in the game by his second contract in the same way guys like Jefferson and Chase have done.  His height combined with his speed, athleticism, and hands are near impossible to find all in one player, there is a reason his generally used comp is Mike Evans (although as he's not as thick, I personally see him more as an AJ Green). Yes, as an Arizona alum I've admitted to having bias towards the player to begin with.  But he's also someone very widely being put into the Top 5 in mock drafts lately and most of them have him as the first non QB offensive player being taken, so it's not really THAT much of a homer pick on my part anyways. If a QB or DE truly separate themselves as being a can't miss prospect come draft day, I'm open to that discussion, but until then, or if it doesn't happen, T-Mac is my pick 100 times out of 100.
