Ex Panthers WR's Facebook post

I'll disregard passer rating if you'll acknowledge the fact that Beuerlein was working with pretty much an expansion team the majority of his tenure, while Jake had a lot more talent around him...

Actually, Beuerlein was very fortunate because the Panthers were probably the most veteran laden expansion team ever...in any sport.

I'm not saying the Jake extension wasn't insanity. It was. But to write him off as a failure or average makes the Panthers fan base look ridiculous.

Kurt Warner had three good years as a Ram. Then he completely lost it. He's still my favorite Rams quarterback of all time. I think Panthers fans have been spoiled in that they've had a top 10 QB for most of Fox's tenure without ever investing a first day draft choice on one. That's pretty effin' amazing if you think about it.

Fair enough. When your philosophy is run and stop the run, all you want out of the QB position is leadership and game management. When your offensive coordinator puts the game in his hands, you're asking for trouble.

Jake was average... very average...

Look at his history before us, and see what happens after us...

Beuerlein was average too... Peete too...

All we need is an average QB with our current mentality... an average QB that won't make mistakes... hence us going into 2010 with an undrafted player at the helm...

Let me put it this way, how many times have the Steelers successfully asked Ben Roethlisberger to pass for 300 yards to beat somebody?

Look I get where ure getting at. The reason why people are happy Jake left was because of last year. I know some years he didnt preform up to some standards but last year was the year us carolina panther fans started to get ticked off. I was a huge Jake supporter but it seemed to me that even though he was throwing up lameduck passes and had shaky confidence the coaching staff and players still supported him. All of us knew it was over but sometimes leadership and being a team player with diminished skill just wont cut it anymore.

Talent wise, I agree with you. But he played the one position where there is just so much more than physical talent required. Look at David Carr. Drafted first overall because he impressed all the scouts with his workouts. Put him in front of a pass rush and he folded. Jake was the anti-Ryan Leaf.

Only game I can remember off the top of my head was the Packers game last year, that they almost lost.

Last year was just the final straw. Go back and watch the previous year. Yes, we went 12-4, but Jake did not play well.
