Statue For Jake Delhomme

It was actually 3 years as a player, which shows how little you know, and coach for us from 1998-2004. You can also make a case that he was as great a motivator/contributor for us getting to the Super Bowl in 2003 just as much as Jake or Fox that year. If not, then MORE.

He already had a statue by the time 2003 came around so I don't see how that is relevant.

Sure why not. Maybe with him yelling for PI to a ref. That what I remember most about him after every play.

After every play? really. Even after completions...that's would be crazy.

Maybe you shouldn't exaggerate EVERYTIME you post something :)

You would have think the guy WON the SB or something...

Or was an All-Pro QB...

He should have been MVP of the SB but we lost and losers dont win MVP. YOu can thank our vaunted Dline for that.

Shoulda woulda, dude...if Delhomme gets a statue, we would be setting the bar REALLY low for the future. Delhomme was influential for our Super Bowl run...yes. But he wasn't the "face" of our franchise. Ask any non-Panther fan. You're overrating him way too much dude.

Dude do you know how many comeback victories he had that year?

Dude did you not see how he played in the playoffs that year?

Jake owned Dallas. He threw the game winning TD against the Rams in Double OT, he threw the only TD pass in the NFC Champ game and he fuging rocked in the SB throwing the longest SB pass in SB history and posting the second highest passer rating in SB history. He threw only 1 int. during the whole playoff run.

Dude you are way underrating him :)

if we're going to give Delhomme a statue for one year. We might as well give Steve Smith one for his triple crown year. Also, we should give Peppers one for the year he came 2nd in votes for Defensive player of the year. See where I'm going with this?

I wouldn't give Delhomme a statue for one year. I'd give him a statue for his body of work, what he did for this franchise and his intangibles.

IF Smitty plays like he has in the past for the next few years I'd give him a statue to, not as much for his intangibles but for his play on the field. Though I actually really appreciate Smiths passion, work ethic and I personally think the last few years he has set a good example for how a player should act. I know he's messed up but he handled it extremely well, everyone fugs up its how you face it that should define you.

Pep was an athletic freak, very few intangibles and he doesn't make the most of what he is. I personally don't think he deserves any recognition by the Panthers.

    • i think i go in the opposite direction of most. my ideal retirement is living in some old downtown area in a flat above some shop or something.  life out in the country was just something i got real tired of. My kids actually miss some of living out there, which i understand. that was where they grew up for the most part. 40 acres with a 2.5 acre pond. it was beautiful, but also way too much (and too expensive) for me to keep up with.
    • FLASHBACK: I remember back when ESPN was just starting--he was their anchor.  They used to show stuff like Rodeo and field hockey--I remember laughing when he went to a commercial mocking a cycling competition in Utah (or something similar--I made that up) and I laughed.  I told my dad, "We may have us a new anchor when we get back from commercial."  When they came back from commercial, Berman was looking very serious and he said, "Any comments by me do not reflect the views of ESPN....The men and women who cycle are dedicated athletes and we are honored to shine light on their sport." (Paraphrasing).  Dad laughed hysterically. My first memory of him--and that was like 1980.
    • Might not have a team without them. Although that probably applies to the Panthers, too.
