Love You Jake! Was the only shot to win next year!

Recommended Posts

I just feel that too many times people on this board forget what Jake did for us!

Keyword.

He was good. He had surgery, had one of the worst performances any quarterback has ever had, and that ended his career. It's unfortunate. I'll miss him. I loved the guy, but he was pathetic last year. He wasn't even playing at a professional level anymore. I hope he turns it around, but I don't see it. This team had to move on. That being said, I'll greatly miss Jake and hope he retires a Panther when the time comes. I personally am excited to see what Matt Moore will do with a full offseason of practice with the starters. It's his team now. Let Jake go.

Or Moose or Smitty or Proehl or Stephen Davis or Foster or the O-line

This was the season Stephen Davis carried the team the first half of the season

Without Davis effort Panthers would not have made playoffs

I have been reading these forums for about 6 years and decided it was about time I make an account. While I have followed Carolina for most of my life, I truly did not have a true NFL team allegiance till I started following Jake on the Saints when Mike Ditka picked him up and later got traded to the Panthers.

I love the Panthers and hope we do well with Matt Moore next year but this move is nothing more than a ploy to please the disillusion Matt Moore fans and justly pissed off Panther fans. While Jake understandably lost it last year after his elbow surgery, he had only one good wide receiver to throw to and our special teams SUCKED! Jake will be able to beat good teams next year but I don't see how Matt Moore has the skills to beat a team like the Saints when they have something to play for. Jake is an easy scape goat for a VERY below average team.

I really hope we make a tone of moves for 2010 because Matt Moore is NO solution to this team's problems!

If you started following Jake when he was with the SAINT's

You noticed at that time he was a back up to AARON BROOKS

You also knew Jake had played in NFLE B/C he could not make it in the N F L

You also know when Panthers picked Jake up ,he could not beat out Rodney{GRANDPA } Peete in training camp for the starter spot day one .

And when he did become a starter ,a very atheletic STEVE SMITH made a lot of sparatic passes catchable B/C of his leaping ability

Jake at best was never more than an average QB that in time got his shot to be an N F L starter

Jake was never a Tom Brady /Peyton Manning type Q B and should never be compared in any way

Moore is a Jake type Q B in some ways

Not a starter and working for his shoot

And if you want to compare QB

Compare Jake to any QB that got released when their teams went younger

Jake thinks for all the near HEART ATTACKS and the wins

I disagree with this. Jake was better than average. WAS. His best statistical season came without Steve Smith, and there were no crazy acrobatic catches from Muhsin Muhammad that year. If Jake had one issue with Smith throughout his career, it was that he forced the ball to him too much. Jake was a baller in his time. That time is over, but calling him average is a travesty.

All you Jake haters are just throwing out stats, and saying other people made him look good. The point is, Hes won more games during hes time with the panthers then most of the QB's in the NFL. Hes a great leader, and im sure the offence would rather see Jake in the huddle instead of Matt Moore. This was a dumb move on the panthers, the only chance of making the playoffs this year, is if we make some great draft picks and they putout.

Could you rethink that decision?

I agree with that. Up to his "Tommy Jone" surgery, he was playing close to top 10 at the QB position. However, you have to admit, he has been inconsistent at best the last 2 years. Last year was the worst I have ever remembered a QB playing(not counting cleveland QB's). Last year had nothing to do with his physical ability, it was a in your head thing. He lost his confidence, mojo, etc... He may work it out, but I rather he work it out on some other team. He got a nice 12 mill out the door, we parted on good terms. I think it's the best ending you can get in this sort of situation.

Offensive line had a little bit to do with our success in 03. As did the defense, which forced 49 turnovers compared to the 34 times that we turned it over.

Of course, when the passing game finally started clicking towards the end of the season is when we went on our run. Jake played very well in 2003. In fact, he was one of the best QB's in the league from 03-06. But he started losing it after the injury, and even though he made some big plays in 08, he started having as many bad games as good ones. Fortunately, our running game was good enough to compensate in some of those bad games (ie the 08 home game against Tampa Bay), but as time went on, Jake got worse.

I also disagree with this. Matt Moore is better than Jake Delhomme in every single way imaginable. The entire team played harder last year when he stepped in the huddle. Jake is such a likable guy that they didn't want to admit Matt was the better option. I guarantee you there was a collective sigh of relief when the team discovered Jake would not be their starter next year. There was a time when those guys would have gone to bat for Delhomme but every man on the team knows it's over. Matt Moore already looks as good as Jake did in his 2nd year (Jakes best season). Moore has mountains of upside and I firmly believe he will be better than Delhomme ever was when it's all said and done.

I can see why the team liked Jake's leadership. He was a fantastic leader, one of the best in the league, but words mean nothing when you're giving the ball away, and last year that became his reputation. One he couldn't overcome. It was great while it lasted. Just be happy that Jake had a stellar career as a Panther, and look forward to Moore bringing it next season.

You've probably gotten so much negative rep you'll never get into the +. The first time I've ever used the 'disapprove' box.

By the way, Jake was never traded to the Panthers, he was signed as a free agent

Furthermore, Jake is 35, still working out the kinks from the injury where as meanwhile Matt Moore showed more then Jake did... You figure it out

Oh boy. I apologize for clearly offending so many people. I realize the dislike of Jake is very justified I just do not understand the amount of hate many posters here seem to have for him and the lack of blame for any other aspect of the team (minus Fox).

As for my support of Jake, I never knew it was not allowed to look up and respect an athlete. I am a Panther fan first and foremost and have never and will never support any other team. When Jake was picked up by the Panthers, I was fighting for a starting spot on my HS football team and Jake was the kind of "never give up" athlete that I looked up to. Before 1995 the Panthers were not a team so many Panther fans have become fans from following a favorite football player. I don't see how that is wrong? I moved from North Carolina when I was very young to Chicago and hated The Bears especially after they fired Mike Ditka where I followed him on the Saints and later Jake (who he picked up). I remember hating the Saints when it was clear Jake deserved to be starting over an injured Aaron Brooks.

I forgot the different atmosphere of this forum compared to the baseball forum I frequent. I just do not see how the team I watched last year, minus Peppers and Jake, will be playoff contenders with a mostly unproven Matt Moore. Obviously there is a lot more time in the off season and I hope Matt Moore and the Panthers dominate the division next year!

Go Panthers!

You talk of an unproven Matt Moore

Yet Jake was unproven in the N F L when he came to Panthers

People Jake is 35 still not recovered from tommy john surgery

He is well passed the avg age of an N F L QB

To think Jake is the only hope the Panthers have of making the playoffs this season is a "Pipe Dream.

Along with the thousand of fans that season after season after season

would say this is TIMMY B's year to do it ....

2 seasons too late Timmy was let go and never heard of again.

Jake will not be starting anywhere this season,if he is picked up ,his new team will want to watch and see how he is recovering

Meanwhile Jake becomes 36

Time is not Jakes friend

Jake had his time in the sun as an undrafted lat bloomer

Now Matt is that underdog looking for his time in the sun .
