I've played sports (high school level and below only) and I served in the military. While I understand what you're trying to say, I think it's a bad analogy. I don't get how people can equate the two.

They all cried at Minters retirement and they all cried at Ruckers' retirement. They sure as hell didn't shed any tears when the media asked them about Peppers though.

Why do people think this is unusual anyway? Fox is not the first coach to get emotionally attached to a player, and he certainly won't be the last. Just because this was a hard decision for Fox, that doesn't mean he didn't think it was the right one. In fact, I got the impression that he was sure this was the right decision.

It's simple...these guys spend about as much time together and go through as many challenges as a soldier does. For instance, how much time do you think Fox gets to spend with his wife and kids during the season, compared to his players and coaching staff?
