Ah, yes. The Cult of Masculinity. Men aren't supposed to show emotions, they're supposed to be careless machines of production and shrug it off when things don't go their way.

Come off it. It's bullshit and you know it.

Jake loved playing here and he loved the fans. The sports world would be a hell of a lot better if every player had the passion that Jake does.

He fell apart physically, I was among those extremely critical of his on-field play but I never, ever called out his character or his fire. Jake always blamed himself, he never put it off on anyone else. That's a greater show of manhood than sitting at a keyboard telling an NFC Champion quarterback to "man up" will ever be.

Off the field Delhomme is a model human being. Massive in the community and unquestionably dedicated to the people he loves.

He was never the most talented player, but he usually found a way to out play everyone else. Eventually his body let him down, but his heart never did.

To me his tears show that he truly cared about Carolina.

It has nothing to do with a "cult of masculinity". I don't care who you are. If you're in the public eye and you just had your ass handed to you by your boss, don't call a press conference for THE SOLE PURPOSE of crying publicly.

Just think about your place of employment and ask yourself if you wouldn't find it the least bit pathetic if a guy started weeping as he was getting fired and as he left.

I am a war vet and have watched my friends die from IED's and snipers. That would be a reason to cry. I really enjoyed Jake Delhomme as our QB but, getting emotional over being released from a team? Come on now guys. The demasculinization of our country started with men getting manicures and pedicures and has turned into our football heroes BALLING ON TV!! give me a break and grow some testicles please

Ok, well your analogy was garbage. It paralleled what these guys do in no way other than the simple fact that it was their job.

If I worked for a place for 9 years as hard as Jake has worked, made as many friends doing it, met as many people, had as much fun, went through as much poo, saw as many people come and go, etc. etc. etc. then yes, I would tear up at the end.

It's pathetic to you, because you're an festering unsympathetic turd that has no respect for football players of Delhomme's character.

If you're so jealous about the money then why the fug do you even watch the games? All you see is a bunch of over-paid sissies running around.

Crying/Showing emotion doesn't make any man any less of one.

I was calling for Jake to be benched since the 1st quarter of the Arizona playoff game and I called it when he stunk it up any game prior to that as well. I also pulled for him and cheered him on to the fullest with every great play he made. That man laid his heart out there on the field.

If you want to make a joke of that, you're a joke. He has a right to cry. Those of you taking delight in his show of emotion can suck donkey balls. You mf's couldn't hold Jake's jock for one second, now STFU.

Maybe he called it to say goodbye to the 72,000 that showed up to support him every other week? Maybe, just maybe, there's an ounce of decency in him? Ever consider that?

Yea, and over-masculinization starts a lot of wars fights, kills innocent people etc etc etc

I get SMF's point. Lets be real Jake is making serious dollars right now whether he plays or not he is set for life. Things will go on. Football is just a game to us regular folks but it is the lively hood of the players.

The football aspect is beyond money imo. Think about it. We all had dreams of being in the NFL. A guy playing football all his life, doesn't get drafted, works his tail off in NFL Europe to be the back up on a shitty NO team, never gets his chance to be the guy despite some good showings. Then a franchise takes a chance on you to be their future and you nearly lead them to a SB, followed by several high and low seasons. They both showed alot of faith in each other and it is something to get emotional about. Losing something you love always hurts.

      Watching those throws Drake Maye was making on a dead run threading lasers into tight coverage on the sidelines over and over in that game against the Bills... these people need to go watch that and be honest with themselves. And yeah, I'm a Heels fan but I'm specifically using Maye here because he's another young highly drafted QB not an established top tier player. Seems like a fair apples to apples comparison versus using a Mahomes or Allen.

      why rig the scenario with the "as a passer" tag.   I mean, I assume you do that because Bryce needs help in the argument.  If we are just talking players and no contacts?   I mean, give me Young over Russell Wilson.   That's it.   I'd put him on par w/ Penix, Fields, McCarthy and Rattler,  so that's a wash.  Give me everyone else over Bryce.  And I'm not handicapping the other players as passing only because when you start doing that it's really meaningless.

      McCarthy to date, for sure. That's a very early sample size, however. Russell Wilson is a backup. Not sure Wilson wouldn't be better suited to our offense specifically, but at the bare minimum it's basically a wash. Hurts I would generally disagree with. I do think Hurts is likely to be less than stellar in our offense. Justin Fields - Agree. Fields is a significant threat on the ground but he sees the field as badly or worse than Bryce. And that's with significantly more reps. Spencer Rattler - I honestly thought this would be an easier call that it is. TBH, right now Rattler looks a lot better. Really almost across the board. Kyler - Murray is better. Basically across the board. Not significantly better, mind you. Trevor Lawrence is more debatable than it seems. Low completion percentages, tons of TO's.....he really has been quite bad this year in Jax. He is considerably more talented than Bryce but the results have been marginally better. Tua - Tua is a little more dynamic of a player but he is a TO machine. Tend to agree. Caleb Williams. Not sure on this. Williams is still struggling to be consistent but his upper end is WAY higher than Bryce. He shows it fairlu frequently, as well. Probably would rather be working through Caleb's issues than Bryce. Penix - 100%. This guy stinks. Cam Ward. This is a little tough. Again, far higher ceiling on Ward and he shows flashes but it's been a mess there in Tenn. Probably lean towards Bryce here.
