How would you rank our positions in importance?...

For the Panthers, if you had to sit down and rank our positions on a scale of importance (1 being the least important, 17 being the most important) to our schemes and system, how would you rate them? I'm not talking about the actual players in the position, but rather the positions influence in what we try to achieve...

For me, as of right now it would look like this...

RB - 17 - most important

OT - 16

MLB - 15

DT - 14

OLB - 13

DE - 12

G - 11

WR - 10

CB - 9

SS - 8

QB - 7

FS - 6

C - 5

FB - 4

TE - 3

K - 2

P -1

C, FB, and TE could all be higher up the list I suppose, but do you think this is pretty accurate given our schemes of running the ball/stopping the run?

I use this ranking in some of my offseason projection work, so getting your opinions here would be helpful here as well...

Again, don't include players we actually have right now, but the overal influence a position has on our schemes...

So you're saying swapping Harris for Teal has a bigger impact than Moore for Delhomme? Hmm. The success of at least 1/3rd of any teams offensive snaps is down to the QB, you can't the same for 1/3rd of defensive snaps for SS, CB or DE.

RB, OL, and WR all have a greater importance to our offensive scheme than our QB, in my opinion... If you need evidence, see how long we stuck with Jake Delhomme...

SS, CB, and DE just happen to be more important to their unit's cause than QB on the overall team spectrum... in my opinion...

You are out of your mind for putting the center that low...the center is the smartest guy on the the field, making line calls checking blitzes

also, I would prefer you all offer up your own lists if they are very different than my own...

I AM, what's the point of us making up lists in order of importance to the coaches philosophy right now? The lists will virtually be the same.

Now, if you ask people to make their own lists as to how they would like the FO to value the positions, then you may get an interesting thread.

17- RB- Our backs make our lineman look pretty good some times.

16- C- Kalil is the man

15- WR- Steve Smith makes our passing offense, he is the only respectable threat right now, though that should change with Moore

14- QB- You saw how big of a difference Moore made when he got in there. We could have taken any team in the league last year in that 5 game stretch.

13- MLB- Self explanatory it's John Beason folks

12- FB/DE- Hoover paves the way. We need to generate pressure on the edge, it's been a while since we've been able to consistently do that.

11- OT- Obviously this is a very important position, but we also have quality back ups in Schwartz and Bernadau, we didn't miss a beat with Gross out. Otah is a beast.

10- DT- We need the beef upfront, injuries killed this spot and it showed, but it would have looked alot better if Moore had been starting earlier.

9- OLB

8- CB

7- FS

6- SS

5- OG- Don't be mistaken, this is an important component for us. I love me some road graders (Wharton, Vincent, Bernadau, Schwartz, Duke etc). But we have alot of depth here. It's easier to find OG than OTs. It always seems like we can plug and play with our guys, probably because we have a great line coach.

4- K-With all of the close games we like to have we need a kicker who can win it.

3- P- Need the field position

2- TE- Traditionally not a big deal in Fox's scheme but I think that will change as we have alot of talent here.

1-Don't have a #1 because of #12.

I was meaning for you to rank thim excluding our actual personnel... like, just how important each position (regardless of who is currently in it) is to our success...
