How about Steve Wilkes?

Wilks called a good game in the first 2.5 quarters.  Then he started playing soft zone and Mahomes picked them apart.   Changed it to heavy cover 0 and got picked apart there.    I think he just played Mahomes and it's really hard to beat him.

SF defense has probably the best talent in the entire league.  it's an embarrassment of riches on that front 7.

They lost because Shannahan put the ball in Purdy's hand too much.  There was no reason for him to throw the ball 38 times.   CMC should have had 10-12 more touches and SF wins.

There are 10-15 other QBs that would've won that Super Bowl last night.  Purdy is fine; nothing special but a solid NFL player.  Nice pick for 262.   But I hated him ever being in the MVP discussions.  it was stupid.

Sure seems like you're trying awfully hard to put words in people's mouths. Why?

I think Purdy is a JAG but a JAG starting QB with the last pick in the draft is a phenomenal steal. I get why a lot of people like him even though I think it's pretty clear he's the limiting factor for that team.

I beg to differ. The words I just saw paint the picture without any help from me.

As one poster put it succinctly they like a QB who doesn't make a spectacle of themselves.

Heard that all before.

I'll leave it at that.

Always love it when folks reach for narratives to fit their biases. And it's usually both camps pointing at each other like the Spiderman meme.

Wtf does that have to do with claiming Wilks called a good game and should have been our HC? You’re acting like that loss contradicts my point. It doesn’t.

Spag also called a great game and is a terrible HC. Being a good DC doesn’t make you a good HC. He mostly called drop back coverages and let his loaded front 4 handle the pressure. KC adjusted in the end and SF did not. That’s all part of it.

There are only 3, maybe 4 QBs who can win the Super Bowl. How do you suggest the 49ers should improve Brock Purdy. Trade for Joe Burrow or Josh Allen? Like be real here

they won't do it but they'd be better off with Cousins

Spags is amazing.  Doesn't get enough credit.   Shut down NE with NYG 2x.      And then smothered SF in the 2nd half against SF with 4 first team All-Pros on offense.

Apparently by DVOA,   this SF team and the 2007 NE Patriots are the 2 best teams that didn't win the super bowl.  Both beat by Spags defense.

They won't do it because Minnesota isn't letting him go.  And SF can build that roster because Purdy is on a nothing contract.  Having Kirk's salary would blow that up.

Once he (Purdy) gets paid anything, that teams window is SHUT.

Not sure I've seen a better group of skill players since the Warner Rams... Kittle top 3-5 TE, has an argument for best TE. McCaffrey best RB in the league undoubtedly. Aiyuk top 5-10 WR. Deebo top 10-15 WR. Juszcyk best FB in the league by far and an incredible blocker and runner/receiver.

Plus a top 5 OL and top 5 offensive coaching easily. Embarrassment of riches and I don't understand how anyone could have him in the MVP conversation with that supporting cast propping him up.

I really just don't understand folks blaming Wilks. They held KC to 19 points in regulation. The Niners didn't score enough points.

No one is blaming Wilks. He just didn’t perform some miracle nor does this make him a great HC candidate. He let his loaded DL do work and did drop back coverages. That worked great. KC just adjusted to it in the end. It is what it is.

And then you have a top 3 defense on the other side.  It's wild how much talent they have.

    • Watching Rams/Eagles. Celebrating the St Louis Rams team that won the SB (Warner, Holt, etc..) while playing in Los Angeles seems wrong.  If I were in Los Angeles, no way I would attend a Rams game.  Probably wouldn't attend a Chargers game either.  Becoming a fan of a team that likes to move around just seems like a waste of energy as a fan.
    • The only responses I am getting after providing statistics to put opinions in perspective seem to be from people who get angry and attack stats and people whose opinions differ from their own.  Have people on the Huddle ever overreacted, exaggerated, been wrong about players before?  Sure they have, so an alternative opinion with statistical support should not cause you to attack me or my views.  I am sorry your public schools failed you.  But your reactions are very revealing--you are stuck in Piaget's concrete operational stage--learn logic, how to debate a topic, and learn the difference between facts and emotional opinions.  When I paralleled Cam's stats with Jones' to point out how remarkably similar their careers have been to this point, It blew some 40 watt minds.  I think Jones, in a better situation, could be good--that should not upset you--
