Marty Hurney "We have made some very difficult decisions with guys who've been with us for a while and have done everything we've asked."

-Marty Hurney announces the release of Jake Delhomme, Na'il Diggs, Landon Johnson, Damione Lewis and Maake Kemoeatu.

Hurney on Delhomme: ""I don't know whether there's a harder decision I've faced in my career. He's been spectacular for us."

Hurney: "It's hard not to get emotional...We struggled with this one a lot. We just made the decision that Matt would be No. 1."

John Fox: "I'm not sure I've had any more respect for a football player than Jake Delhomme."

Hurney: "Our focus is on our young players. We feel like we have a nucleus of young players who can step up and be the core of this team."

John Fox: "It's a young man's game, and part of being successful is developing young players."

John Fox: "Right now, we've made the decision that Matt Moore is our starter, and we'll move forward."

Hurney: on how Delhomme dealt with the news: "He handled it with the same class that he's shown since he's been here."

- on the state of defensive tackle position: "We feel like we've got some young guys at DT that can step up."

- on DEs: "Charles (Johnson) has gotten better every year. Everette (Brown) showed a lot of ability. That's a start."

- "Sometimes you have to force yourself to give (young) guys that opportunity and that experience."

-on SLB slot: "We have Dan Connor and James Anderson, who we drafted in the third round. They would be two pretty good options."

John Fox: on being in the last year of his contract: "I'm not going to treat this season any differently in my mind."

      People looking at the offense negatively need to step back a minute and remember that expectations were mighty low this year. We have a lot of young guys and rookies. And our qb is a newby in the system he is in with a new coach who has never been a head coach and signal caller combined.  This is a work in progress so only an approach which recognizes incremental improvement is valid for best measuring where we are versus  demanding immediate success after a 2-15 campaign last year.
