Moore, Cantwell and ?????

Recommended Posts

Seems many people are sold LeFevour is going to be drafted but having seen him for at least a couple years play (Ball State fan) I think he is more of a system quarterback. He ran a spread option kind of offense and really used his speed to stretch the field. I just dont see him being all that successful in the NFL.

We should really look at John Skinner from Fordham. He has descent spead, started his almost whole career, did well at the senior bowl, and has great measurables. He should be available in a later round but may wind up like Flacco. Who really saw him being drafted in the first?

I definitely think we sign McCown back.

After that, I am not even sure we get someone in the draft. We already have a very young guy in Moore. Also, Cantwell is a ??. He is prob as good as we would get in the latter rounds.

Question comes down to how high a draft pick would we spend. Anything lower than a 4th and I would just as soon have Cantwell.

While most may not like it, they could possibly trade their 2011 1st rounder to move back up in the 1st to get someone... I just don't see Clausen or Bradford being there if we did though

I hate to say it but The Golden Calf of Bristol might be a target if, in fact, he has improved on his mechanics any... I think based on his leadership and athleticism, could fit well with the youth movement

I wonder how the Panthers really feel about Cantwell? We don't talk about him much, but he actually looked pretty darn good in the few pre season snaps he played, and if he would have come out as a junior, he would have been drafted for sure. Maybe they actually think enough of him that they would be willing to let him and a rookie compete for #2. That would be surprising, but you never know.

Given the impending lockout, next year's first has less value than most years.

Next year's first would net us a 2nd this year. We would have to add too much to that to move up high enough in the first to pick any QB worth it.

Cost is too high and I just don't see it. But then again, what the hell do I know.

Then again, next year's top QB's will be much better than what we have this year. That 1st rounder would be worth it's weight in gold if we could get a guy like Christian Ponder, depending on how Matt Moore does for a whole season, of course.

Yeah there is, Why in gods green earth would we do something that stupid? Pennington should be the first option.

So Caitlin Upton won't be the stupidest ex-pageant queen in the area.

Answering the question tho; bringing back one of the 2 (McCown/Feeley) should be the direction.

lulz. and to answer the question, they'll move up in this year's draft to get a defensive tackle, no question... so if they went after a quarterback in the draft it would have to come later, like... say around the 4th or 5th round. but i see them resigning McCown/Feeley... and then if Vick does well in the preseason, they'll bring him in as a backup/wild cat option. but at this point, it's pretty obvious we need help along the defensive line. so i think we'll move up pretty early in the draft to take care of that, then hurney and fox will go after a wide receiver and/or the best player available. which for some reason at this point, i think it'll be a linebacker or safety.

Cantwell didn't have any trouble with the deep outs using his new motion from what I saw last year in TC. I only went one day, so I can't comment on his overall accuracy with the new motion. It does say something about the guy that he went out and found a professional on his own to fix his motion and completed the change in less than a month. Unlike most of the previous developmental Panther quarterbacks, he has all the tools. It will be interesting to see how he does this TC/preseason.

All that said, he's just one possibility at this point. I agree with most that we need a McCown or equivalent vet as the backup to the unproven (long term) Moore. I would also like to see at least one other QB thrown into the mix with the legitimate talent to at least take over the backup role. Troy Smith was only tendered at his original draft level (5th). There aren't a lot of other vets with upside available at a reasonable value that I know of. If they can't or won't get Smith, we just need to see what falls to us in the draft.
