Pennington to Carolina?

Recommended Posts

Pure speculation here...

Mort's report comes from another team that is interested in Pennington. So maybe that other team will end up getting the player -- if that other team is willing to give a no-trade clause.

Seems likely given that Pennington would be a backup in Miami too.

Moore is still a relative youngster himself, and in fairness, still unproven. You don't want another unproven youngster as his primary backup.

Pennington makes sense in that he's a veteran, but at this point he can throw a football about as far as my sister.

Change the thread title....it's misleading. No where does it say the Panthers and there are like 30 something or teams they could be talking about. Steve Smith would never catch a pass over 10 yards with this dude throwing the ball.

Calm down. The thread title has an obvious question mark in the title. Half our threads here are pure speculation.

That being said, Pennington could be a good veteran leader for backup. His starting days are pretty much behind him. I do wish we had a BIG leader as a backup to really help and mentor Matt Moore. Someone that would be proactive in that regard.

    • Karlaftis and Danna have been pretty inconsistent so teams have been doubling Jones and able to contain their pass rush.   But the good thing is that yesterday, we schemed well against Steve Spags Defense, Canales married the surrounding personnel with his QB through play designs within his comfort zone and was able to get downfield at will.  He was able to execute higher difficulty throws and look a lot more comfortable.  It tells me that Canales has a good system in mind, and had an edge gameplanning wise against Spagnuolo - which is nice to see.  It's a bit to see-saw at times with either going way too pass heavy or way too run heavy, but I think he's finding out what works.  It takes time to have it come together, and sure, I could see regression happen against a better front-7, but this was good for the entire system gelling.
    • This was evident first two weeks of season. I don’t see any issues with physical tools since he came back. I think he is a player that must play with confidence to overcome those size limitations and he’s doing that.
    • Still 3-10 on passes over 15 yards.  At least he's not scared to merely attempt them anymore.  Where I see improvement is the 10-15 yard range.  He was 6-6.  Bryce of old was scatter shot on anything beyond 10 yards and the further out, the worse the accuracy.
