Is this the worst GM/Coach combo in Panthers history?

They are arguably the worst combination league-wide in the 21st century. Only a handful I see comparable. Doesn’t just have to do with records, we netted some of the least value possible draft classes (3 in a row) and wasted so much capital on senseless trades and excessive neediness.

Like how do you basically miss on every choice from a draft where you had 11 picks?

You fire the coach who wanted them and change systems.

That's not an argument that we should have kept Rhule, but It's something that you do have to take into account when you're evaluating draft picks.

and Fitterer followed that up w/ the 2023 nightmare.  2 first and DJ Moore for a middle schooler.  Trading up for DJ freaking Johnson.   Overpaid Miles, overpaid Hurst, etc. all of which were outplayed by dudes like Hubbard, Tremble, etc already on the roster.

The more we saw of Scott Fitterer....the more I still think all signs point to Scott Fitterer being the worst of all the bad.  Got to remember the one season Rhule was paired with Hurney the Panthers still overachieved...and tons of folks on the roster had the best seasons of their career.    It was flawed.  Issues.  Everyone was green so it made sense.  But there was positive and hope for a minute.

Scott Fitterer is the one constant to all the comical nightmare that got barfed up IMO.  He singularly should rank at the top of all the idiots (Tepper obviously excluded as he is the technical answer).

its crazy to see how depleted this roster is and how fast it got there over the last 3 years. Take away the Bryce trade and its still terrible. Just the God awful draft day trades and the misses that are so bad mid round picks are out the league in 2 years. I know Rhule and Frank sucks but I blame a majority of suck last 3 years on Fitterer now that I look back.

Man I don’t know. Rhule was bad but Frank was awful. It’s hard to say which was worse, and they both had Shitterer as GM

Yep. The team we had last year was by far the worst product we’ve ever had. Fitterer/Reich takes the cake and personally, I think Fitterer had more to do with the losing.

Rhule is full of sh-t.

Really? How many games did you watch Purdy play in college? How many games did Voth watch him play in college? How many games did Fitterer watch him play?

Rhule had a front row seat to two games where Purdy beat him and almost beat him again with 600 total yards and 4 total TDs.

I don’t care about Rhule but you picked one “lie” where it seems like Rhule actually putting him on the draft board make sense. Also, that was the first draft where you ever said that Fitterer got more control as the GM.

Oh, yeah, in the official rankings. Frank/Fitterer has to rank worse than Rhule/Fitterer.  No way around that outside of using gymnastics of the unknown to argue otherwise IMO.

Rhule's 2020 alone sends Frank/Fitterer into first place.

I mean, if it's just a Carolina ranking.   Frank might of been a better overall coach in the grand scheme.  But in terms of in Carolina, the Frank/Fitterer shitshow rules supreme.

I hate to agree, but I do. Remember the 3-1 start in 2021 with the close loss to Dallas? That stretch and losing close games to both #1 seeds in 2020 is so much better than anything we saw out of Reich and Fitterer in 2023. Imagine what the scores would have been had we played Baltimore and San Fran this year. That’s how bad Fitterer was.

I think there were some people, who won’t be named, that cast Rhule as such a horrible coach/final say guy that they truly believes Fitterer deserved more time and that Reich was a stud. They are still trying to bring Rhule up to make themselves feel better about being so wrong after this year’s apocalypse. I can only hope Canales and Morgan turn things around because there’s only so many Rhule threads that I can take two years after he was fired.

Still trying to carry water for Matt Rhule?

Have fun with that 😄

Lol. You still can’t actually respond when you are clearly wrong.

So, Rhule wouldn’t be knowledgeable about Purdy?

Love the deflection too. I’m not a Rhule fan, just don’t like how he’s still being used as an excuse for you being a huge Reich and Fitterer fan boy until proven wrong.

I won’t reply again on this topic because I again know you won’t actually respond just deflection again and again.

@CRA Every time man. Rhule coaches against Purdy twice and Purdy plays well as a freshman/sophomore and pointing that out means I’m a Rhule fan boy not just posting facts.

I'm saying how does that even happen.  You have to try to draft as poorly as we have.

Sure, dude.

Pretty much everybody knows Rhule is a lying narcissist. Voth (who would have been there) basically called bullsh-t on his claim. But if you wanna try and defend Rhule on this one, good luck.

It's dumb, but good luck anyway.

You're off on your results, though.

In the draft where we had 11 picks, we got Horn, Christensen, Hubbard and Tremble, all still with the team and all made contributions last year except Christensen (who even despite that might be the best pick of that class). Others like Shi Smith put in some work as well (still surprised he didn't stay given he would have been perfect for a West Coast type attack).

As to how you draft badly, making it a collaborative effort helps a lot. In that draft we got Terrace Marshall because Joe Brady lobbied for him, Thomas Fletcher thanks to Rhule and others. Likewise, we later took Matt Corral because of Ben Mcadoo, DJ Johnson because Ejiro Evero wanted him, Kalin Barnes again from Rhule, and so on.

Fitterer's biggest failure was rooted in taking a too collaborative approach with everyone rather than just making the picks straight from the draft board the scouting staff put together.

Mind you, the one big "flipside" argument could be Stroud vs Young, depending on what you believe.
