Troy Smith available for 5th round pick

Ravens quarterback Troy Smith has made no secret that he wants out of Baltimore. He's got his chance.

Smith's agent Ralph Cindrich tweeted that Smith was tendered at the original round level; the Ravens will only get a fifth-round pick if he signs an offer sheet and goes elsewhere.

Quarterback John Beck was also tendered, so the Ravens have a backup in place if Smith leaves. The decision by Baltimore appears to be inviting a possible trade.

The question now becomes whether there is any market for Smith.

Before this last season, I would've been all for it, but he was sick or something during the preseason and he just never looked right when I saw him play after that.

If he's healthy, he's got skills though.

Had Moore not shown what he did last season, I'd say let's do it.

I really like Troy Smith and he's certainly worth a fifth-round pick, but I think he wants to start somewhere.

By Matt Moore been tender for a 1st and 3rd shows that his most likly going to be our starter come next year.We got more pressing needs at this time then another QB on the roster. So no thanks!!

He looked fantastic when they used him in trick/wildcat passes in 08 (had a nice deep bomb back to Flacco that was excellent).

Give the kid a chance and I promise you he will succeed. If nothing else he would finally bring some legitimacy to our pass out of the wildcat. Who in this draft that you can get in the 5th has looked nearly as good as him in college? And he has proven he can read NFL defenses.

:smash: Moore is mostly going start this coming. What is going to take for some of you to relize Moore has proven he is a starter. *** Troy!!! We are better off using the 5th round pick on another postion. Plus some of you are forgeting about that QB that is our practice squad that look solid in last year preseason. I forgot what his name is. But I sure he will get a shot at a 3rd string backup job come camp time. So no more crap about troy. Stop it before my brain explodes.:smash:

I don't remember when it was I saw him play this year, but he didn't look like he did in '08 preseason... I had heard on a broadcast that he had gotten sick and lost a bunch of weight in the preseason though.

I really wanted to bring this guy in. Of course, I still have a crush on Josh Johnson in Tampa so my QB evaluation skills are suspect.

He's potentially got a much higher ceiling than Moore, anyways.

No Jake to fall back on now. I think it is very unwise to try to head into next season with the QB situation as it sits now. Smith is just one of my faviorte candiates as he is young, exciting to watch, and could bring us the trick play threat (like in the wildcat as I have mentioned). Most likely we bring in a veteran that has little to no upside when I think Smith could be a high caliber starter.
