that 11.3 million is for 2025 season. Not this coming. We have 130 million in cap and by then can walk away from Hurst and Sanders so will go up even further. I'd take the gamble.  If he plays good you can walk away from Djax and save another 5million if needed.

I was thinking, wasn't he drafted in 2021? The math ain't mathing...

Nope.  No thank you.  I ain't investing money into someone that makes Jeff Otah seem reliable.  That's just a reality.  Jaycee Horn is only a dawg in Pantherland.   No one else talks about him for good reason.  He doesn't play.  3 years in and he frankly has yet to even show his stuff vs a legit good QB/WR tandem because he never is on the field for it.

I'm focused on Brown and Luvu if I am the Panthers.  Building up a functional offense.

No one talks about him because this team is irrelevant across the league. Barely anyone talked about Brown and dude legitimately had one of the greatest seasons for a DT ever. Nobody talks about any of our other players like Luvu either. If we were good maybe we'd get more attention but there's also the fact that no one on the national level cares about the Carolinas and sports here.

Derrick Brown still made the Pro Bowl.    Legit breakout years for non-sexy spots often show some lag w/ the national audience/perception.

no one is talking about Jaycee Horn because he doesn't play.  And when he has played, has never even had Bradberry type moments shutting down a Matt Ryan to Julio connection to even claim he is being overlooked by people.

I just don't get it.  Horn has been a bust.  I don't care to hang on to him.  And I don't fear the....but if we let him go and he stayed healthy mind trap.  Play the odds, crazy injury prone guys from day 1.....generally don't go on to have iron man finishes.   And I think Thomas Davis is a horrific comparable people like to make.  He didn't come straight into the league and breakdown every season despite playing a more physical role.

He did play 13 games in 2022.  I'd take the option.

If he winds up injured the next two years, he won't get a contract from anyone anywhere.  It's most definitely in his interests to be healthy.  At $11 million, it's not even that bad.

and the following year we have the most cap space in the league.  254 million.  We do not have a cap problem.

If you watched the games he has played you'd realize his talent is that of an elite shutdown #1 corner. There's no reason to give up on that this early because he's been hurt a few times. Maybe he never works out but what good reason is there to get rid of him now? Cap hit is irrelevant, we're rebuilding. We're not going to get any significant return with his value at its lowest point right now. There's just no reason at all to get rid of him. Let him play out another year or 2 and make decisions about his future here then. Convince me why it make sense to get rid of him now or to turn down the option.

Cool.  3 years in the books.  He hasn't played much and I green light cherry picking.  Name his signature game to date and the QB/WR duo he shutdown that actually proves he is elite.

I mean, there are still some legit questions about his game given how little he has played.  Some of the same ones that folks wondered when he was coming out.  And we have yet to see him face those questions/tests because he never plays and when he has it largely has been against meh QB/WR combos.

I just don't want to pay him, pick anything up or extend him.  That's my stance.  I welcome him next year.  That's it.

I do hope Luvu and Brown tie some of that up for us! fingers crossed. I hope the void years on some of these contracts of late is a thing of the past until we are actually a contender.

have to make the decision by May 2nd

Horns option will cost 11.29 mil

keep in mind.  We have roughly 29 mil in Space (probably will open 10 more with restructures etc)

and have Burns+Luuvu as FA.

Can he stay healthy is the question. We never had a full season from him since he has been here.

Pick it up. I am tired of being a farm organization for historic franchises. CMC hasn't missed two games in a row since he left here. DJ Moore had a productive season with Fields at QB. Stop giving away the players we draft!

CMC, DJ, Horn.  One of these things is not like the others.

after 3 years in, CMC was arguably the best RB in the NFL.

after 3 years in, DJ was putting up back to back seasonal production few WRs in the NFL were matching.

I mean, everyone knew they were going go be good elsewhere because that's what they were here.

the last first several first rounders that disappointed during his rookie contract and  left.... didn't go blowup elsewhere.   Butler and KB.  Heck even ones that didn't disappoint didn't go and do better.  Star.  Same for the recent 2nd rounders we didn't extend and let see the door from E. Brown to Clausen to Curtis.

Last decade, guys who didn't pan out here didn't go pan out elsewhere.  Yet somehow people are worried about that?

    • What I really learned here is that the Carolina Panthers aren't anywhere near as bad as I initially thought they were earlier this year.  We've got a young and growing offense with some promising parts. But it still needs some tweaks and improvements.  We really still could still use a dominant #1 WR. But Chubba,  Legette, Coker,  and J.Sanders have generally looked decent. Bryce took a big leap after the benching. We can score enough points to keep pace with 2x defending super bowl champions, so offense isn't a huge issue. Main thing that needs improvement is defense. We sorely need a CB 2, and a number of new players at Dline and LB.  We're not quite as bad at edge with Wonnum showing promise.  But we definitely need 1 or 2 more edges Clowney is old.  Run D is probably worse prevailing theme these past couple years. We really need a good young stud or two to pair with Derrick Brown and another LB to pair up with Trevin Wallace. If Morgan and Canales can focus on rebuilding the defense this off-season and possibly going out and getting a #1 WR. This team could easily be somewhere around 7-10 to 10-7 and flirting with playoffs in 1 or 2 seasons. Overall this game has made me feel alot more positive about the direction of the team.
    • With our picks we need pass rush, lb, Safety, a speedster yac wr, o line depth and I still want a mid round qb. We got 9 picks and 8 in the first 5 rounds. If they pull Off another solid draft we be cooking.
    • We had one passing touchdown against the Giants and one passing touchdown against the Chiefs today. Yes a good backup can replicate that. And that is why Andy Dalton in significantly less games has the same number of 30 point outings as Bryce Young. I am on board with you guys about wanting to be hopeful for the future. Today was a good performance to build on especially at home. But let's please keep things in perspective. BTW the Bucs who honestly aren't even that good blew the doors off the Giants today after we went to overtime against them with 17 points. Again. Perspective.
