Per Steve Reed:

The New York Giants could reportedly offer DE Julius Peppers a contract that would match the deal Albert Haynesworth got last season — $100 million. The free agency signing period begins in less than 12 hours (Friday at 12:01 a.m.).

Report: New York Giants Could Offer Julius Peppers $100 Million by Colleen Canty on Mar 4, 2010 1:27:04 PM

Julius Peppers may have found a team willing to meet his huge asking price.

According to media reports, the Giants could offer defenseman Julius Peppers a $100 million deal. On WFAN's Boomer and Carton show Wednesday morning, Craig Carton confirmed that he had inside information that the Giants have prepared an offer similar to Albert Haynesworth's seven-year, $100 million agreement with the Washington Redskins.

Peppers will leave the Carolina Panthers as a free agent after declining their offer of about $14 million a year. The 30-year-old has expressed a willingness to play in a 3-4 defense and would be open to moving from defensive end to outside linebacker. If the Giants signed Peppers, they could move to a 3-4 scheme.

Six to eight teams are rumored to have interest in signing the defenseman, including the Redskins, Patriots and Bears.

Peppers has 81 career sacks in eight seasons. With his strong 2009 season, posting 10 1/2 sacks, the five-time Pro Bowler may get the big contract he wants.

The bidding war begins Friday at 12:01 a.m.

    • I think XL is going to be just fine. His mistakes have stuck out a lot more because they've been in clutch situations. If a few plays go a different way he's at least over 500 yds receiving and 5 TDs, that's not bad at all for a rookie.
    • Look at our WR situation from the other side. Who are you going to put your better CBs on?  Johnson and Theilen went out early---XL had 138 yards in the first three games on 12 catches.  Yardage-wise, that is over 30% of his total for the season.  12 catches is nearly 30% of his catches for the season. When these players went out--Johnson, AT, Mingo, etc.  it left XL facing the best corners of the opposition for many games.  He is raw--we knew that when we drafted him.  You can't throw a raw WR at the best CBs in the NFL and expect instant success.  If he spent the season facing the second or even third best CBs on each team, he'd probably have better stats.  Legette is still thinking out there, in my view. When the light comes on, he will be good. ------------------------------------------------ Hearing that there is noise to play Velus Jones over the next two games.  We will see if they do.
    • I wonder if Rod asking all our top goal scorers to be able to be great on defense as well is wearing on them. Just let them be our goal scorers! This is why you have defensemen and bottom line forwards!
