List the guys you can easily see wearing new jerseys next year

(Will update as names are listed)

Thomas Howard - ILB - OAK - 2nd round tender

Brandon Marshall - WR - DEN- 1st round tender

Richard Marshall - CB - CAR - 2nd round tender

Kirk Morrison - ILB - OAK - Original (3rd round) tender

Tarvais Jackson - QB - MIN - Original (3rd round strangely enough) tender

Brad Smith - WR/QB/KR - NYJ - 2nd round tender

Pierre Thomas - RB - NO - 2nd round tender

Troy Smith - QB - BAL - Original (5th round) tender

im surprised at the pierre tender.

A second rounder for P. Thomas would not be a bad deal for NO. I lump him in with Marshall in that he probably wants more money than he is really worth. With a second round tender if a team REALLY wanted him then NO gets a second for him, not bad for a RB that does not have any "exceptional" ability. NO still has the ability to match so if he isn't offered a crazy deal then NO can match and probably get him for less than what he is asking for.

Allot of these tenders are meant to simply assess the market value for a player before a team signs them back.

Teams are hoping the market value will result in justifying a lower contract than what the player might have originally expected.

surprised at the 2nd round tender on Thomas Howard. that guy is one of the fastest LB's in the league, and is actually pretty good.

Very surprised. He has been pretty good every year he has been in the league and the are countless starting linebackers who make him look elite. Also is only 26, so not really sure why they have gone this route. He really is one of the leagues best in coverage, kinda sucks against the run though.

Incidently Howard is an OLB

Morrison is also in danger, he is a beast against the run and whilst he has declined since his first seasons, he has still be a very good MLB. Only 27, you could do MUCH worse by giving up a 3rd for him.

Oakland could be in danger of having to completely re-work their starting D.

I wouldn't be so sure. Simply using a lower tender does a lot to piss off RFAs. It's not the money, it's the stigma that their team would rather dangle you out as bait than talk money. That is why we put 1st and 3rd on Davis and Moore, because we want them long term and want them to know it.

Tendering low can seriously alienate some players. It's a bit like saying one player is much more important to us than this other player.. It aint going to sit well with a lot of them ESPECIALLY as most thought they were going to be UFAs

This year is different. There's going to be a LOT of movement on RFA's this year. I think that's why everybody got the tenders out so early this year.

Agreed.

Also another reason that is playing into some of these "suprising" low tenders is that this is projected to be a very deep and very fruitful draft. Couple that with a possible lockout next year and no one wants to overpay for talent. Especially talent that is not rare.

Do the Panther's want to give Marshall a Gamble type contract when there is talent on the roster, a draft with DB talent into the 2nd and 3rd rnd, and a realistic market value far below that? No.

Same way with pretty much all these guys.

Without many UFA's of consequence, RFA's are going to be a good source of currency for a lot of teams to improve this year.

    • Scary how bad the TMJ and Mingo picks were and how similar the XL pick seems to be. We’ve seen how Coker and Thielen and heck even Diontae were able to have great games with Bryce and yet we seem to draft these RAC, big, athletic projects instead of guys like Downs and McConkey. It’s almost bizarre but it seems like we got the worst of the Seattle brain trust that just want to find the next Wilson or Metcalf or ignore the OL until it physically hurts. It takes too long even when we finally do something right and then you realize we’ve got a good OL but now we give up 30 points per game. This draft better be a multi-bagger.
    • Honestly, every year I watch less closely as I think they are less and less informative of how successful a player will be. Combine superstars who go on to have successful in the pros usually already had success in college.
