Pat Yasinskas on Tebow in the NFC South

Florida quarterback The Golden Calf of Bristol is working to refine his throwing motion. Will he play QB or some other position in the NFL? Let’s assess his chances of landing in the NFC South.

Atlanta: Unless The Golden Calf of Bristol wanted to switch positions and the Falcons thought he could play tight end or somewhere else, there’s no chance of him landing in Atlanta. They’ve got Matt Ryan as their franchise quarterback. Coach Mike Smith and offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey aren’t big believers in gimmicks. They rarely use the Wildcat formation and they’re not going to change and disrupt their offense.

Draft probability: No chance.

Carolina: The Panthers probably are in the market for a quarterback in free agency or the draft. At the moment, they have an uncertain situation with Matt Moore and Jake Delhomme as the only real options to start. The Golden Calf of Bristol has a history as a winner, and the Panthers have done their homework on him. But coach John Fox and general manager Marty Hurney have to win big this year, and they’ve always believed it takes too long for a quarterback to develop from the time he’s drafted. The Golden Calf of Bristol is just adjusting to an NFL throwing motion. It’s very unlikely Fox and Hurney will take him because they don’t have the time for him to develop.

Draft probability: Low.

New Orleans: Yeah, it’s tempting to think about the possibilities of what a great offensive mind like Sean Payton could do with The Golden Calf of Bristol. But do you really think Payton is going to do anything that potentially would take the ball out of Drew Brees’ hands?

Draft probability: No chance.

Tampa Bay: The Bucs have young quarterbacks in Josh Freeman and Josh Johnson. Freeman clearly is the franchise guy. If the Bucs do anything at quarterback, it will be to add a veteran free agent to help mentor Freeman. They have 10 draft picks and lots of needs. A project at quarterback isn’t one of them.

Draft probability: No chance

I think he's wrong about Tampa

I don't think Freeman will amount to much, but no way do they draft a QB just yet and possibly shake his confidence. Actually, the only way I see The Golden Calf of Bristol to Tampa is if the Glazers really ARE hurting for money and they do it as a cash grab/seat push.

Yeah, but that only way is actually a probability. In this economy, if half your fan base is Gator fans and The Golden Calf of Bristol is sitting there, how do you NOT take him? With his attitude, he's going to be successful at another position if he can't make it as your quarterback. You'll have an increase in ticket sales starting the Monday after the draft.

I think had they not drafted Freeman and rode the McNown/Leftwich bus last year The Golden Calf of Bristol would be a lock for them. I just don't see them writing off their #1 pick one year later. Unless Freeman obviously isn't the answer for them, they can't even really draft The Golden Calf of Bristol out of position. The first time Freeman screws up all he would hear for weeks is "The Golden Calf of Bristol" from the local media and fans even if he were listed at TE or Wildcat specialist. It'd kill Freeman's career.

I'd tell Freeman to toughen up. Freeman doesn't sell tickets. (not that I don't agree with what you're saying)

It's got to be a tough choice for all three Florida teams. Tampa has Freeman, Miami has Henne, Jax has Garrard (underrated). Tampa is rolling in picks, so there is the possibility they dump Josh Johnson and set The Golden Calf of Bristol to become the #2 asap and tell Freeman to toughen up, as you said. They can afford to drop a second to secure him.

Personally, I think Jax, Miami or NE take him.

I have a The Golden Calf of Bristol question for someone who is knowledgeable about throwing mechanics:

Everyone says- The Golden Calf of Bristol only worked out of the shotgun, his throwning mechanics are terrible--- my question is who is to blame for this? Is it The Golden Calf of Bristol or his coaching staff at Florida? Could they not have done something about it while he was still a freshman being groomed under Leak? I'm just confused by this whole ordeal. If he had gone somewhere else would he have been a monster prospect? Thanks

    • And he still has one more win and a $110M contract, go figure?
    • People looking at the offense negatively need to step back a minute and remember that expectations were mighty low this year. We have a lot of young guys and rookies. And our qb is a newby in the system he is in with a new coach who has never been a head coach and signal caller combined.  This is a work in progress so only an approach which recognizes incremental improvement is valid for best measuring where we are versus  demanding immediate success after a 2-15 campaign last year.
