oh and what about the St. Louis Cardinals and the Arizona Cardinals?

Well technically weren't the Arizona Cardinals were the St. Louis Cardinals football team back in the day I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Still, having the same nickname in another pro sport shouldn't be a factor...I agree.

BOBCATS_BALL! - i LOVE the logo you have as your picture....we DEFINITELY need a NEW LOGO...

The name, at first wasn't a fan, I guess it's grown on me a bit...isn't the "worst" though I would much rather have something that made sense w/ the city of Charlotte.

Charlotte Royals!!

Charlotte CrownsCharlotte Knights isn't bad, though we already have that team.

We should name them the Knights and then relocate the KC Royals to Charlotte..Queen City Royals and Knights! Dreaming for sure.

Maybe Stearn will just hook up the best thing that's ever happened to the NBA, Michael Jordan, and give us the "Hornets" name back...I mean hell, it wasn't Shinn's idea, he wanted to be the "Charlotte Spirit" and the city said NO and suggested the "Hornets" FACT.

How about Charoltte Crown Royals

It is quite shocking how people are clamoring to erase all memory of Bob Johnson from the team. Jordan will keep the name as an homage to the man who helped him get the franchise. Without Johnson's help, it's unlikely he would ever be in position to purchase an NBA franchise.

We don't have much history, which makes it even more important to respect the history that we do have. We're not an expansion team. We're the Bobcats and the Bobcats we should stay.

What other team would be confronted by this issue after a sale? I hate to play the reverse race card here, but this type of animosity for the name of the franchise is veiled bigotry.

How does race factor in? The guy named the team after himself. And the name is kind of gay. Bobcats? Was Lynx not available?

Charlotte Knights. Awesome uniforms. Awesome logo. Bobcats Arena could become The Castle. And, like I said, players could have Sir So-and-So on the back of their jerseys. Tell me every kid named Raymond wouldn't want a Charlotte Knights jersey with Sir Raymond on the back.

I'm telling yall meshing the historic royalty with something sky/aeronautical related would be a marketing machine...There's a million flippin names better than the bobcats

I would love an informal nickname without Charlotte or Carolina...

Crown City Flyers

I agree. They could market the Knights to no end.

There are 2 big reasons why the Bobcats need name change. For one, you have 2 "cat teams" in charlotte, the Panthers and the Bobcats and everyone knows that Panthers are better than Bobcats. Then you have to realize that Bob picked the BOBcats name just because his name is Bob.

BINGO. Bob Johnson is the evil black carpetbagger locally. He came here to rob us all. The same fear and paranoia of "reconstruction" america in the 1800s has never left Mecklenburg County. "Re-naming" a 6 year old franchise is just a lame attempt at "erasing Bob Johnson" from our legacy. Thats why Im glad Mike got the team because now I know we'll be Bobcats forever.

People want to forget about Bob Johnson. Not because he is black, but because he was a bad owner.

I think it will help if people feel this is a fresh start with Jordan. If you don't feel Johnson was a bad owner, it's probably because you're one of the 10 people that somehow, actually approved of the job he did.

Everybody else? News flash. We didn't buy it.
