Over the weekend Michael Jordan bought himself a nice little belated birthday present — the Charlotte Bobcats. Seems like a nice gift, right? But almost immediately, Jordan will be presented with the franchise's most pressing issue.

If Michael Jordan listens to his customers, and potential customers, he'll seriously consider a name change from "Bobcats" once his purchase of Charlotte's NBA franchise is complete.

The names that have been suggested...

-Dragons

-Flight

-Hornets

-Cougars

All of those are really corny except for maybe the Cougars, and thats still a "cat". The fans voted on this already when we got the team and chose Bobcats. These names were also suggested for the Hornets franchise before Shinn settled on the Hornets. There is no need for a name change or mascot change or logo change 6 years in. We are fine as is. Bobcats are indiginous to our state and region and our mascot's name is RUFUS. OK City Thunder's logo, color scheme, and name are cheesy as fug but no one cares or is complaining right now because they are winning.

i think maybe a redesign of the logo, i like the nickname or at least it has grown on me. The logo needs to have something that separates it. For example (ik everyone hates comparing to the panthers, fwiw) the Panthers logo is suppose to resemble the outline of north and south carolina together. Maybe the bobcats should use something that goes towards charlotte or the region like the "queen city" design in the old coliseum that is still seen around the city. A good example is like user Bobcats_BAll's avatar is pretty cool.

Totally agree, they need to start using the C more often, its pretty sweet. I didnt even know it was a part of our logo until I bought that hat I showed in the other thread.

Out of those I'd choose the Flight. But a name I really like is the Spiders. Instead of the Hive as or arena we can refer to as Charlotte's Web.

But I just don't see it happening either way.

BOBCATS_BALL! - i LOVE the logo you have as your picture....we DEFINITELY need a NEW LOGO...

The name, at first wasn't a fan, I guess it's grown on me a bit...isn't the "worst" though I would much rather have something that made sense w/ the city of Charlotte.

Charlotte Knights isn't bad, though we already have that team.

We should name them the Knights and then relocate the KC Royals to Charlotte..Queen City Royals and Knights! Dreaming for sure.

Maybe Stearn will just hook up the best thing that's ever happened to the NBA, Michael Jordan, and give us the "Hornets" name back...I mean hell, it wasn't Shinn's idea, he wanted to be the "Charlotte Spirit" and the city said NO and suggested the "Hornets" FACT.

i like bobcats. they should just stick with it. i think the Alt. Logo that they use at the center court is a step in the right direction but the primary logo sucks cack. i think if BOBCATS_BALL's avatar was a alt logo and the bobcat was redesigned to something that resembles something NC it would be a solid logo. plus, dont change the colors, the color scheme is f***in amazing

It would be a horrendous decesion to completely change the name of the franchise. It would cost a ton of money plus the bobcats is not that bad of a name. I didn't like the name at first, but it has kind of grown on me, and if they keep changing it I will never like any of them.

Charlotte's Web, Flight? Cmon those are stupid.

I do hate the colors, but like I said it's pointless to spend a ton of money on something as superficial as that. Plus I bet the colors will grow on me too, because that's the thing with sports teams. You really don't have any attachment to their jersey or name until you can experience a good memory with it .. ie winning.

What should have happened is: New Orleans should have got the 'Jazz' back. The Utah Jazz? Really? What Mormon plays smooth Jazz? If New Orleans had its proper name, than Charlotte would have been able to keep the Hornets (wish I thoroughly enjoy) and the Jazz could have sucked it up and got something new... Before people flip out I know this wasn't going to happen, but its what should have happened.

All things considered, Jordan won't listen. In fact, he probably won't even consider the financial cost of changing the name- Jordan does what Jordan wants. Evidence? His drafting decisions (I'm not opening that can of worms today). Better brace yourself for his stubborn style 'bobcats' fans and don't be surprised if we turn into the 'Jumpmen'.

      Based on the NHL cap today ($88M), the Canes have $22.9M in projected space going into the 25-26 season. Seems to be a consensus the cap will increase to $92.5M next season, but let's not assume. The core of this team is locked up for a couple more years, with the only UFAs at the end of this season: Roslovic, Fast, Robinson, Jost, with Orlov and Burns on D. Remember Seth Jarvis's contract? Remember the press it got because the Canes found a loophole that allowed them to get his contract under the cap by using "deferred salary?" Yeah, don't expect that won't be addressed by the league and that loophole closed. That being said, if the Canes decide to sign Necas long term, they should do it next season and they'll probably need to pay him Aho level money- close to $10M a year. Let's assume the team gets through the season without any career or long term injury concerns. And, let's be honest in the conversation. Does Jesper Fast have a place on this team right now or have we found the right combination on the ice that he may not be needed?  Does Brent Burns retire, or will he decide to stay another year? If so, there's a 1-year thank you for your service $6M deal.  If Roslovic shows out this year, that's gonna be a pretty big contract compared to the 1-year, $2.8M he's getting now. He may command around $4.5 - 5M to stay. So, those 2 guys are gonna cost you $11M. Get Necas a new deal at $10M, you're up to $14.5M of the $22.9M in space. So you've got about $8.4M to work in Orlov and Robinson, which is do-able. Plenty of room to work deals and keep every one of the UFAs if the Canes so desire.

      Dan is doing a fine job, however, I'm not sold on Canales. I think he needs to give up play-calling duties, but I also realize that this wasn't an easy fix.
