Falcons not expected to pursue Peppers

From an article in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution titled "5 things we learned at the NFL combine":

FORGET ABOUT PEPPERS: The indicators are pointing toward the Falcons not getting involved in the Julius Peppers derby. The buzz words that keep coming from general manager Thomas Dimitroff are “fiscally responsible” moves. My man Charles Chandler of the Charlotte Observer noted that Peppers turned down a deal that would have paid him between $13 and $14 million last summer. A deal in a higher range doesn’t appear to fit the Falcons definition of “fiscally responsible.”

I hope this guy is right, seeing Peppers in a Falcons uniform is the only thing that would really bother me. I dislike the Bucs, Cowboys, Patriots, Eagles, etc but I HATE the Falcons.... most obnoxious/ignorant NFL fans.

To be a Falcons fan, you have to take an oath to practice aggressive stupidity when it comes to all things related to football.

If what was reported on these boards is true about what the 'Cats offered Pep to stay, and he turned that down, I have to wonder what kind of advice he's getting, because I find it hard to believe that ANY team would come up with a better package.

If he hates it here so bad that he wants out regardless, then that's another matter altogether. But to think he can do better than 13.5 mil for 5 years, well, all I can say is have at it.

I think it's about the $ for Peppers only because the $ is a sign of respect.

It's my understanding that the last offer we made him was the one last summer and the only time he has heard from the FO since the season ended was when they called his agent to inform him that we would not apply the tag - so it's pretty clear that we intend to move on without him.

That being said, I wonder what would happen if Peppers comes back after testing the market and tells the Panthers he will take the offer they made him last summer?

    • Current draft order NYG, NE, JAX, TN, CLE, LV, CAR. We need to ask ourselves "what is the biggest need of those teams heading into the draft"? And, "What positions do we know are not major needs for the teams above?" JAX is terrible, but we know they won't be drafting a QB. The Patriots won't be either. The Raiders and Giants definitely need a QB. The Browns have one under contract, but he's been terrible since they signed him. I could see all 3 of them eyeing QB's. Hunter is a wild card. He could be the first player taken. Or, he could slip because some teams may not want to deal with his insistence on playing both ways. A team with a bad O-line may want to go LT TMAC is going to appeal to a team that needs a playmaker at WR. If CB is major need, I could see Will Thomas (or Hunter) coming off the board prior to our selection at #7. It's possible that Graham could fall into our laps. Then again we haven't factored FA into the equation. A lot of these teams will lure some players just because of the large amount of dollars they afford to play them and fix some needs before the draft. It's going to be an interesting off-season.
    • Sure, but despite being targeted less, he has more TDs than Odunze and more y/r than Nabers (and same number of TDs).  He's got a very similar y/r as Worthy.  He isn't stacking up that poorly to other WRs, but he has trailed off late - something that imo may indicate injury or needing to improve conditioning. He's not ever gonna be the best WR in this draft class, but he'll be in the top 3-5 with a bit of improvement imo.
    • Oh for sure. With Rod it’s never the defenses fault. I think someone posted this in Reddit a while back. Rod with the forwards. Rod with the defense.
