X-Box Headset question

So my son has an X-Box and he seems to go through headsets like I go through beer on a hot Saturday afternoon.......anyway, they only last a couple of months (if that) and we are off to buy another one. This last one lasted about 3 weeks. He even borrowed one of his friends the other day and he plugged it in and worked fine and then it went dead in an hour.

Son is now wondering if there may be some sort of short in his controller that is causing this. I know nothing about X Box and can barely even spell it but do you guys have any ideas, is this common?

I have had mine for over 4 years......I would say something in the controller might causing this, or you drunk one night might be trying to plug it into something or somewher you shouldn't

Bet some sort of battery feedback is frying them. New controller, Hoss.

Definitely the controller - still have my original from 2005.

Interesting....thanks for the tip everyone. We will give that a try........now we have to buy a new controller, a headset for his friend (that got fried) and a new headset for my son.......ugh.

you know that you can use those cheap cell phone hands free earphones with a mic on it right?

Not sure if he tried that or not yet. I have one at home that I have never used and will have him give it a try. Thanks.

And if he throws it around and bangs 'em up, just buy a generic controller.

Nah, he takes good care of his stuff, which is why I was shocked that these things kept breaking on him.

Nope, not the controller! At one point I went through 3 in a month and probably 10 in a year.
