Morgan / Canales leash…. 3 seasons?

I don’t think that we will be very good next year, but the NFC south is so bad that every single year you have an opportunity to compete and win the division.

I think the more important question. Here is whether or not, we will be competitive and show progress. That will dictate how long these two are here.

It will take 3 years just to stabilize the roster..

I disagree. It is going to be a lot longer rebuild than that. That's why we keep failing so miserably, the franchise refuses to see how in the shitter the overall roster is.

You gotta admit you have a problem befofe you can fix it.

Tepper isn't there yet.

I think if they can start putting up some points early, that helps a lot.  I like what Person tweeted about Tepper saying he's going to stay out of the spotlight.  Hopefully that means less meddling.

I think we can look at year 1: being competent, maybe not the most talented.  Year 2: Being competitive, meaningful December.  Year 3: We need to look like a playoff team.

I'll say in the NFL, with its year to year variance, three years is more than enough time to see if it works.  Ideally, Tepper got it right on the 3rd try, and Canales is able to lead a competitive and feisty team.  If they are just fun, then that's a step in the right direction!

I have no idea what will happen, but I can see Tepper firing him in year 3 if it still looks like poop.

D-dave poster nailed it, it's all about the eye test.   Record is mostly irrelevant in year 1.    A little more so in year 2.    Their needs to be noticeable competitive  improvement year over year even if the wins don't come right away.   Last year we were hardly competitive.  And the eye test was failed horribly.

I don't know... With Tepper's short leash, if we are like 1-10 again to start the season with Young looking as terrible as last year, I can see Tepper firing them both because of his hubris and not accepting the fact that Young is a bust. Tepper would rather fire everybody else in the organization rather than admit he was wrong in trusting a stupid test in thinking that Bryce was the best QB in the class.

Tepper can pretend he’ll give them a leash but if we don’t make the playoffs by 2025 I think they’re gone after 2. If not sooner.

Any coach that can take a team to the playoffs with Young as the starter deserves the coach of the century award.

I think 2-3 years but if we come out as bad as last year I would say less.  I think most of the board expected 5-7 wins last season considering how the team played at the end of the previous season.  Reich's team came out and was just historically bad on offense.  It wasn't just about losing games but how dead the offense was.  If we had a bunch of losses like the Green Bay game where we kept it pretty close and our QB showed promise I don't think Reich is gone.  There was just no signs of improvement and that was the issue.  As long as Canales' team shows promise throughout the year (s) I think he'll be given some time.

I think the new HC can survive sucking next year if Bryce looks bad.

He basically just has to check 1 box.  Creative and good playcalling.  Good vibes/culture too.

I think Tepper will be willing to move on from Bryce Young after this year if need be.  I don't agree with this narrative that Tepper can't admit he is wrong on something.....Tepper actually has an easy time admitting he is wrong and moving on from people.  It's actually his one strength.  His biggest flaw is never picking the right person from the start.

Considering what Canales did in Seattle and TB, it will be impossible to ignore reality of Canales can’t turn Bryce into something.

I think it just requires improvement, not necessarily playoffs. I don’t think we’ve improved a single time since Tepper got the team. Ron was always on his last legs here, sticking around 6 years too long, Rhule treaded water for two and a half years, then Reich was actually WORSE than Rhule somehow, by the look of results on the field. So if there is an actual uptick, I think the leash will be much longer. Even as modest as four wins this year, as long as the offense looks somewhat competent, then six or seven wins the next year, then year three could end with nine wins and no playoffs and it would still be improvement. As long as the team looks to be going in the right direction.

The completely unsubstantiated rumor that Bryce is Tepper’s darling and he made that decision in doing a lot of heavy lifting in your claim.

In today's NFL if a GM and/or coach can't at least show significant progress in 3 years I feel like any owner is justified in firing them. There just isn't any reason it should take longer than that in the modern NFL where teams can improve so quickly if they make the right moves. If we aren't at least knocking on the door of the playoffs at the end of year 3 of this regime then that's a sign it's probably not going to work out.

Realistically if you look at teams that have hired new coaches/GMs that have worked out long-term most - if not all of them - showed pretty significant and immediate improvement. McVay with the Rams, McDaniel with the Dolphins, Ryans with the Texans, etc.

Even Dan Campbell in Detroit, who had a bad first year and first half his year 2, it was pretty clear by the end of his second season that they were heading in the right direction.
