Where does Peppers wind up?

Matt Foley

I said nothing about bringing back Peppers, signing all of our guys, and being active in free agency.

Then why say this?

But I am absolutly sick and tired of this team accepting mediocrity. It sickens me that Jerry Richardson is going to sit on his wallet and not try to improve the team because of the lockout. Yes, I know no one will ever dare to critcize "The Big Cat" because he brought a franchise to Carolina, but he needs to be held accountable. He has won nothing, and has never been able to put back to back winning seasons together. People want to blame Fox and Hurney, but Richardson is running the show.

Or this?

oh what i would do to have an owner who actually wants to win instead of sacraficing his teams success for the better of the nfl. everyone say what they want about how great Jerry Richardson is, but he is absolutly wrong in how he is handling this offseason.

You clearly were demanding that the team make a big splash as you are constantly referring to Jerry, 'sitting on his wallet'. Those statements also indicate that up till now we have done the bare minimum in paying for players, thus you were indirectly inferring that you want them to spend more this year simply because it is upcapped. So, whilst you did not directly say that you want those three things, you indirectly did by the context in what you are expecting of them

I also think that the fans have become accustomed to mediocrity and are starting to accept it. It is really depressing going to games and seeing how we have one of the worst fan bases in the league. It is just real depressing all together.

This kind of suggests to me that you are a pretty young guy, because every single fanbase views themselves as 'one of the worst in the league'. This is because, by and large almost all fanbases are the same, unless you want a fanbase that demands success like the Phili fans? Fans that tell their owners when they are not happy, fans that make the home advantage a huge factor, fans that border on disgraceful at times. If you do, then you need to realise that they, much like the Panthers, have never won a superbowl.

And do not tell me that if we signed him to an exstention then we would lose three or four of our younger players. IT IS AN UNCAPPED YEAR RIGHT NOW. Also what is the difference if we signed him last year would we not have still lost those same players or would they have magically been kept? So I guess Marty Hurney was willing to lose those same players this year but one offseason later he has a revelation and realizes he cant let them go? No that is not the case at all Jerry Richardson is being cheap and driving this franchise into the ground. Like I said it is fine for Rooney and Kraft to play by the rules because they have won championships and proved they know what tehre doing, I am still waiting for Richardson to do the same.

You once again missed the point. I was not talking about the cap, I was talking about sticking the the budget that allows you to not go bankrupt, gave an an example of a team that had a similar situation AND you take things from one year and apply them to another.

The big reason why it was not such a big issue last year, was because there were no players other than Gross who needed extending. This year, we had a ton, Marshall, Moore, Davis, Brayton & Vincent are the starters from last year, then we have DWill entering his last year in 2010.

I know it apears hard for you to understand, but unfortunately small market teams like ours, MUST adhere to a budget as they do not have the disposable income to cover a one year fluctuation off their set long term budget plan. Make irrational decisions with millions of dollars, can cause huge organisations to go bust. Jerry fought very hard to get a team in Carolina, give me one reason he would jeopardise this, to bring in one or two extra guys, extend Pep and re-sign everyone. Remember this was your indirect demands that indicates what you expect.

On a side note I love how you reference Kraft and Rooney. These guys have always been built off longevity, building through the draft and making tough sacrifices on their own older free agents. Surely you would recognise that the Steelers are the wining-est team in superbowl history and New England are the only team to achieve a 'mini dynasty' in the salary cap era. If you know that, then you must realise that their business plan is the most successful business plan to follow? So, just because we have not won a superbowl and they have, we need to ignore the business plan and go against everything that we have modelled ourselves after? I hate to burst your bubble, but both these owners are still operating within their own imposed salary cap, acting as if it was still there. The reason? They know that the teams that get it wrong this year will be paying for it 10-fold in the upcoming seasons, therefore they are sticking to the plan they put together and not being swayed from it no matter how demanding their fans are, no matter what free agent hits the market. They are not doing this, IN AN UNCAPPED YEAR, simply because they have already won superbowls, no they are sticking to their plan because it is the only way you can run a multi-million (or billion) dollar organisation.

There are 14 teams who have not won a superbowl. We are one of them, yet we are also the youngest. What right do we as mere fans, to demand success even though history indicates that it is more luck than anything. If we were going by statistics, then more teams would have won, as it is, the two teams you can't get enough of are the leading teams. Why, oh why would you want to suddenly jeopardise the team for one year of spending when history has shown what is the most successful way of running a team?

Note to self: Dont ever argue with Urry!

;)

Incidentally I don't really like arguing, I just get frustrated when people make irrational and emotional comments without thinking things through, then when someone points out the facts they carry on arguing!

Ah well.

On topic though, I really am starting to think he is all about the money. His 'list' last year prevented any trade which he was worried would happen, so he felt he was in control.

He rejected the contract to make him the highest paid DE, but not defensive player.

Thus I feel it's going to be someone with a lot of spare cash rather than the perfect fit. So your Dallas, Washington, Oakland will give it a go however I think he will end up in Arizona. He seems to like going there and with the way they are letting Dansby and Rolle go it would seem they have something planed for the off-season.
