Where does Peppers wind up?

I love this team and I own season tickets eventhough I live in NJ. I still manage to come to 6 out of the games a year and will support this team through anything. But I am absolutly sick and tired of this team accepting mediocrity. It sickens me that Jerry Richardson is going to sit on his wallet and not try to improve the team because of the lockout. Yes, I know no one will ever dare to critcize "The Big Cat" because he brought a franchise to Carolina, but he needs to be held accountable. He has won nothing, and has never been able to put back to back winning seasons together. People want to blame Fox and Hurney, but Richardson is running the show.

That absolutely has nothing to do with why many of us don't criticize him.

He just isn't at fault.

I don't see any logic behind your point; "HEY LETS GO SPEND 100 MILLION ON A TON OF FA'S THAT AREN'T REALLY GOING TO HELP US AT ALL!!!!!!!!!"

"IN FACT LETS SIGN LIKE 20 OF THEM EVEN THOUGH THERE ISNT ENOUGH ROOM ON THE ROSTER LOL MAYBE WE CAN GET LIKE 5 REALLY GOOD WR'S THAT WILL BECOME ALL STARS FOR US."

Face it, it just isn't going to happen like that whether or not Richardson pays big bucks or not.

Sounds like Chicago is really after him, I would guess Philly is the 2nd most likely and NE is the 3rd.

Both Chicago and Philly don't have a problem paying someone, NE will wait to see if they can get a "we might win the SB again" discount.

What are you saying? Please tell me once where I said I want to go sign 20 players, the only person I said I wanted to sign was Peppers who I feel is the best most valuable player on our defense. I have only missed one game since the team became a franchise and that was 2007 when the Panthers lost to the Texans where Smith had that incredible touchdown, so I like to think I know what I am talking about.

You have failed to answer my question how come when we offered him to become the highest defensive player in football after he came off a year with 2.5 sacks, we were not worried about signing our younger players. How about last offseason when we franchised him and tried signing him to a contract we were not worried about losing our younger players. The funny thing about those two years they were both capped years. Now that it is an uncapped year it is impossible to bring back Peppers and sign our younger players, the logic does not make sense to me. Actually it does, JR is throwing away this season because he is more concerned about the state of the NFL then the state of his own team. It is complete BS.

I also think that the fans have become accustomed to mediocrity and are starting to accept it. It is really depressing going to games and seeing how we have one of the worst fan bases in the league. It is just real depressing all together.

Last 3 years, Julius Peppers has 27.5 sacks and was paid 44 million dollars. Thats paying for exceptional and receiving mediocrity in return. Even if he matches his best year of 14.5 sacks, do you actually think paying 21 million is worth it? I mean, even do this exercise, short of the Minnesota/Arizona game, what game did Julius Peppers take over? Why should we pay him Peyton Manning money, for Cooper Manning Performance?

As John Fox would say "stats are for losers". It is not all about sacks when it comes to Julius Peppers. I would love for someone to post the article about all the Saints players saying how happy they were that Julius was leaving and how it was a bad move for the Panthers. Teams have to gameplan just for Peppers which frees up other players to do things that they will no longer be able to do. The guy is a stud who plays the run great and can drop back into coverage. For a while now I have kind of wanted Julius to leave just so all you people can see how great he truly is. It disgusts me the way he is looked at on this board and how people feel he can be replaced so easily when in fact that is not true at all. Someone mark this down I GUARANTEE we will see a big drop off on our defense next year.

Your right, It's not about stats...well not sacks anyway....Main stat for a Pass rushing DE is hurries...Peppers was fifth in the league last year in QB hurries with 31.5. Only players ranking ahead of him were

J. Allen, J. Smith, A. Ogunleye, Freeny.

6-10 - R.Edwards, A.Spencer, R.Mathis , R.Geathers and M.Williams.

Problem with Peppers is, He doesn't go 100 percent all the time. If he did he'd lead the league in sacks every year as well as hurries. He's also not as good against the run as most think he is, nor has he ever been great against the run, he over pursues too much. Carolina gave up an average of 5 yards a carry to the Left end side. Not much better in the other spots on the line either this year.

So lets use the last two season's to check...

2008 - LE at 4.75 yards, / RE side under 3 yards

2007 - Wait Pep is at RE this season..... While Carolina's Dline ranked 9th overall - RE rank is 26th at 4.75 yards.

Stats

Not since Jenkins was here and gave a damn has Peppers stats at Run stopping been worth a damn. I think that had more to do with the whole line being beastly then anything else.. He over pursues 75 percent of the time and and is out of position to make a play. While I like Peppers and think he's a great player, unless he's willing to go all out 100 percent of the time He's not worth the 5 year 60 million dollar deal or 12 + million a year. Which he won't do....

Keep the money, Sign the players on the team to long term deals...maybe pick up a few low end High motor guys to plug in on the line in FA...Maybe even draft a DE at some point in the draft as well. Though I'd rather us Draft a pass rushing DT and WR more then another DE.
