A Saint fan's take on the Panther's offseason

1. Quit crying about Peppers. Yes, he was a great player and probably the most talented end of the past decade but he's also an asshole who picks his spots. Barring that he goes to ATL(God help you) I see him robbing some desperate team with shitty play. While you may not have anyone as talented as Peppers you have two young ends with a ton of potential with Chuck Johnson and Brown. Brayton is also a solid end at DE who may not be flashy but he gets it's done. Plus, he literally would kill to continue to be a Panther.

2. Quit the illusion that Jake has any chance at stealing back the starting spot. Name Moore the starter NOW, no WR worth a poo will give Carolina a look if there's even a remote possibility that the Panthers will play a QB who has those kind of problems upstairs.

3. Draft/Sign WRs. Smith has not had a decent threat besides him outside of a handful of years when Muhammed wasn't ancient. If you want Moore to have any shot at long term sucess he needs to be surrounded with weapons.

4. Draft a DT who can collapse the pocket. This has been a problem for the Panthers since Jenkins was traded and will continue to be unless something is done. Is there anything more frustrating than watching a QB step up and avoid pressure from your ends? This draft is deep with DTs, find one who can bring interior pressure.

5. Lock Thomas Davis up with an insane deal, he's been arguably your best defensive player for a few years now.

6. Move Dante Rosario to either WR or flat out commit to making him an integral part of the offense. I've seen him a lot since he was drafted and I have always noticed that he shows a ton of potential. Problem is, the Panthers historically have not utilized TEs for much more than blocking.

7. Move one of your two RBs for a high draft pick. Why? The Panthers offensive line is good enough to where any back with a pulse could have sucess behind it. Besides, RBs aren't really that valuable when you consider the length of their careers but shhh most teams haven't figured this out yet. Use the high pick to fill one of the needs listed above.

8. Kiss our ring.

I kid. :)

like i said, you guys probably have a top 5(at least) o-line in terms of run blocking. if you plug a decent back behind them they WILL have sucess. i know it would hurt to see one of your backs leave but at the end of the day i don't see a big drop off happening. also, if the reports that richardson won't spend much are true you need every pick you can get.

I understand that but what's to say we don't draft a bust? then we just gave away one of our best players for nothing.

yeah I know our o-line is baller and any back could be successful behind it, but.. whenever Dwill or Stewie touches that ball there is a chance of a huge play, you can't say that about 'average' backs. I'll keep every offensive talent we've got :P

Matt won't be named the starter until AFTER negotiations are finished. That's why you don't see anyone rallying for Matt to be the starter or Fox/Hurney making a definitive stand on who is going to be the starter. For now it's all about getting Matt signed and if he's being talked about as the starter that will bring a much larger paycheck. I don't think Hurney or Fox can afford to commit to him if he turns out to be the next Derek Anderson.

I'm not sure Peppers is going to tank on whomever gets him as a fresh start may actually energize him.

I hope your right about Jake but this is Fox we're talking about and the only reason Moore even got a chance was because Jake got hurt.

I'm not sure any of our young guys are #2 caliber so some competition at WR will be a good thing.

The DT problem is why our pass rush as been very average for years. QBs have a nice comfy pocket step up into almost all the time so tackles can cheat to keep our DEs from going inside and let them just rush behind the QB as he steps up.

Davis is my favorite player on defense and I'm in agreement with needing to lock him up. He's one of the most athletic LBers in the league and lays the wood.

The Rosario thing is the only one I'm inclined to disagree with. He is a good receiver but a bad blocker. Barnidge looks like just as much of a receiving threat and actually blocks at least acceptable.

I'm not real sure about trading D-Will. I think Stewart can replace him but it's nice having 2 studs. I would have to be blown away by an offer to consider it, top 15 pick at least.

the panthers have actually done really well with high draft picks.

I wouldn't say Davis has been our best defensive player. He started to break out this past season because of our new scheme and looked to be on his way to a Pro-Bowl caliber season, but Beason has definitely been our best defensive player the past three years.
