Honestly I was just kinda surprised you wrote that. Do you have an arguments to my points made? Not even tryna be a dick, maybe I’m missing something.

We are 13th I believe in the league in cap space. I don’t know the exact numbers but I don’t think it’s completely impossible we get two receivers of that caliber. Even if it isn’t those two. We are going to need to spend this offseason and WR should be the number one target.

Honestly I’m not sure if we can even afford one of those guys. We can hypothetically but that would mean Burns walking, Luvu walking. Or pushing back cap into future years which is not something a team as bad as this should do. We aren’t one player away, and free agency is not how you build teams with no structure. I hope we invest in the draft, look at the Packers with their young WRS(Jayden Reed, Romeo Doug’s, Christian Watson) not of those guys were first rounders.

Unfortunately,  think it's actually unlikely that Evans, Pittman, and Higgins are all FAs.     Guys of that caliber don't hit the open market.

Best realistic targets are Ridley and Hollywood.

Need to draft a WR, preferably at 33.

Maybe trade Theilein if price is right.   Mingo had a fine year for a rookie WR with a rookie QB on a terrible offense.  Everybody else is out the door.

Our cap next year sits at $30M - if we restructure some deals we can get to $50M.  We also need to deal with some free agents like Luvu, Burns, Franklin...but we should have some decent cash to spend.  The one bright side of having no 1st round pick is the contract savings too.

I'll get specific.  Clean it out, draft 2 minimum, new FA haul.

First, land a prospect with refined route running coming in for once. Adonai Mitchell is my fave for us this year.  I've been a big Troy Franklin fan, but he's more of a downfield burner from that Oregon offense and we need someone who can get open quick, has good RR skills, and you can move around.  And then you go and grab another like McMillan out of Wash mid rounds.  Or maybe go for the YAC type with that Corley kid.

Pittman is my favorite target from a FA standpoint.  We'll have the money.  Need a bigger body hands-catcher.  That's Pittman (and more).  Noah Brown could be interesting.  He had some nice moments this year.

I just hope we stay away from Gabe Davis.

I've been paying attention and listening to the draft gurus talk about this year's WR class. It's one of the deepest in recent memory and very good WR talent can be had at #33. Some guys who fall into the 2nd round this year would have been 1st rounders in other years.

Alot of work needs to be done in that room.  Chark and Viska should walk, TMJ most certainly a cut, probably should trade Theilen because of the value/ target share in the MOF.  It might not all happen in one year but we need to inject speed and a #1 into the WR core and will probably need to find some kind of TE to affect the passing game especially considering Hurst's serious concussion issues.  At WR at least there is alot of solid options in free agency and as potential trade candidates.

I like the trade Thielen idea.  He had a good season, but he will be done by the time we are competitive.  Not sure you could get much for him at his age...I think Mingo has room to develop and I saw flashes in Smith-Marsette who is a special teamer and could step up as a WR in some sets.

Tua was a bust in Miami and suddenly, he got 2 burners.  I see that being in the cards.

I think we add a mid tier FA WR at most. Calvin Ridley or like Josh Reynolds. Thielen is still producing and reliable. Mingo should be on the roster there is still potential there. Ihmir-Smith Marsette showed something, I hope that is a resign.

Spend a draft pick in the lower rounds on someone with some potential. I think it is very important for us to get a RB that can catch the ball out of the back field and make things happen while also being able to be consistent in the run game. Money or draft capital WILL be spent there. Chuba will be our hammer I think.

As unideal as it is, I think the WR doesn't get  a major shake up this season.

I'd also be interested in us kicking the tires in the trade market, depending on availability and cost:

  • George Pickens (not sure where PIT stands on him or cost; 23 YO, 6'3" 200lb; 63-1140-5TD in '23)
  • DK Metcalf (wonder if his antics & new regime keep or punt on him; 26 YO, 6'4" 226lb; 66-1114-8TD in '23) **former ties to DC***
  • Jameson Williams (at best, he's the 4th weapon on DET's offense; 23 YO, 6'1" 180lb; 24-354-2TD in '23) **former ties w/ Bryce at 'Bama**

    • Would it be possible to do that trade without us getting Watson?
    • I'd be willing to cede everything east of Hickory to SC if I'm being honest.
    • A look at all the QBs making championships over the past 35 years says it's not 1st round QB driven. There are only 64 championship QBs, and this includes Jake Delhomme, Kurt Warner, Case Keenum, Tom Brady, Nick Foles, Mark Rypien, Eric Kramer, Brock Purdy, Rich Gannon, Brad Johnson, Russell Wilson and more non 1st round QBs. 5 of these QBs went to a championship in the past 10 seasons. 3 of the 5 won how many of the past 10 SBs? Foles beat Brady. Mahomes and Brady have won 7 of the past 10 SBs. Mahomes walked into a ready made contender. The other 3 are Foles, Manning and Stafford. We know Manning did nothing. It was defense. Stafford managed a defensive game. Foles beat Manning in an offensive shootout. Keep in mind Manning and Stafford were not drafted in the 1st round for the team that won the SB. The Rams have drafted how many 1st round picks in the past 8 years? The Broncos only drafted defense in the 1st round for 5 straight years leading up to their SB, and that's what stopped Cam. Any QB game manager can get you to the playoffs. OL, running game, defense and coaching carry the load during the season. Clutch QBs are needed in the playoffs to get to the championship games, and there is nothing favoring a 1st round QB being clutch over all other QBs. Never draft a QB in the top 20 picks unless they have a professional sports pedigree! If you need a QB it's simple competition and steady flow of a QB type (physicality/talent is not a deciding factor for champions). Sticking to a competitive strategy that filters out QBs who are high TO% and low clutch performance will always work. You're always looking for the one who refuses to give up the starting spot by feeling momentum, showing high situational preparedness, and knowing when to take risks. Top 20 picks should be defense with few exceptions. If you want offense, trade down to get more picks for defense and OL. There should always be a 4 QB rotation (3 roster and 1 practice squad) on the depth chart until 1 has held onto the starting spot for 34 games. Then go to 2 QBs on the roster. Patience in this process is key. There will never be a QB allowed to fail for more than 5 straight games for the myth of long term development. This QB strategy results in hitting on a franchise QB within 3 seasons while building a strong defense and deep OL. The defining factor of success for an NFL Franchise has been the HC/GM combos who have studied, mastered and implemented Bill Walsh's book together. The Panthers franchise appears to be no where near this championship strategy or philosophy. Butting heads over philosophy and mixed/inconsistent strategies have been the constant since Tepper took over.
