Jordan agrees to buy Bobcats

I loved Jordan as a player and keeping Jordan means keeping Brown (Larry, not Kwame... LOL) but I'm concerned about this on several fronts... 1) Is Jordan being sold the team because he's the most finacially viable bidder or because he's Michael Jordan? 2) As the majority owner, will Jordan start showing up at games on a more consistent basis and engage the community?

Jordan is definately the sentimental favorite, but Postolos's accomplishments as the Rockets president are pretty impressive (see today's observer) and he sounds exactly like the kind of owner the Bobcats need right now.

On a side note, would this make the Bobcats the only ex-player owned NBA franchise... and if so, would that mean Charlotte is home to the only ex-player owned NFL and NBA franchises?

1) A little of both, but make no mistake about it, Bob brought Mike into the organization 4 years ago with the intent to "groom" him to become owner 1 day. Thats why Mike had first refusal to sale.

2) Mike already attends many games and can be seen courtside regularly. Mike "not attending games" is a cosmetic issue mainly pushed by non-Bobcats fans or people who have issue with the team. Some owners are absentee, some are not. I truly believe your owner attending every game has very little impact on the product on the court and that should be #1 priority. Im sure Mr.Richardson attended every home game in 2001 and 2007. It didnt help the Panthers win at home.

I disagree. Posotolos intent was to blow everything up and start from scratch. Given that the team is very close to a playoff spot in year 6 and is finally starting to get national recognition, bringing him in wouldve compromised alot of stability. There was also never an indication that he wanted the team to remain in Charlotte, as his businesses are in Houston, TX. His stint with Houston was mainly carried by the fact the team brought in Yao Ming as a #1 pick (a no brainer move) which opened it up to a Chinese market (1 billion people) that are still faithful to the Rockets to this day. For example, Tracy McGrady was nearly voted an all star starter this year simply because of the voting in China where he still has many fans despite not playing hardly the past 2 years.

As for the Charlotte Observer, they have never been an ally of the Bobcats, so its not surprising they would lobby for an owner most people knew little about simply because he wasnt Bob Johnson or Michael Jordan. The Observer has written more critical articles and smear pieces about Bob in 6 years than they ever did Shinn. Many of the writers at the Observer are still close family friends with the Shinn family and or used to work with them. You go in the comments section of their paper and it is still very "pro Shinn", "pro Hornets". Thats why Shinn's rape trial and its impact on the city is never discussed in the "opinion" pieces. Many of those guys are still Hornets fans.

Ill have to check that out. Not sure if Mike is the first former basketball player to own a team. I would guess so at this point, but there may have been another. Its kinda cool though that both would be here.

Having MJ as a owner has to help the Bobcats with attracting free agents. It will be hard to turn down MJ when he comes knocking on your door.

I have one question now! Could MJ get a free agent a huge shoe deal to go along with a smaller contract for the Bobcats? It would keep the Bobcats from paying the luxery tax!
