Interviews: Round Two

Canales is an incredibly uninspiring candidate, especially considering the other options available. If it wasn't Tepper making the decision I may have more of an open mind but if we hire him it'll just reinforce my lesser opinion of him. As always I'll watch the team and be hopeful come week 1 but it won't last long if we can't start winning.

And with rookie phenom QBs, it's hard to tell how much is the coordinator vs the QB himself (a la Cam, Luck, Mahomes, Burrow, etc). The difference between 14 and 20 was only 4.6% whereas the difference between 14 and 12 was 5.2% alone so they were closer performance wise than the raw rankings might suggest.  

I prefer Johnson the most of the offensive coaches, but im kind of surprised we havent heard more about Monken around the league as a candidate somewhere.  He has experience and a proven track record and looks great statistically on almost all metrics.  I get hes not one of the young guys anymore but still, hes got plenty of coaching left.

For what it's worth, as of today we will have satisfied the Rooney Rule and can make a hire at any point.

Think theres any chance that happens? It just seems weird theres been no talk of any other candidates... especially after Tepper has been clearly chasing Johnson.

Yeah I agree, I like Canales, but hes not at risk of going elsewhere, you can do the due diligence of meeting in person with some of the higher demand guys and if you decide you like him the most, then hire him. The only ones they may need to move quicker on would be Morris/Eviro if they wanted to go that route, but I feel like most teams want to at least meet with Johnson, MacDonald, Glenn etc

From what I’ve read Canales is a great communicator and leader, potentially the culture setter we need in top of being a good offensive mind. Anyone hear anything about Slowik and Johnson in that regard?
