I don't think we need to draft another rookie QB to push Bryce. We need a vet for that and there's no shortage of them set to be FAs. Minshew, Dobbs, and Lock all had moments in which they looked serviceable and better than whatever the hell Bryce did.

Rookie would be more prudent depending on the draft position. Unless you can get one of these guys on super cheap deals it’d be a better investment to use the cap improving the OL/WR room

Dumb to draft a QB this year.  This team needs immediate help.  Besides, if Bryce is bad again, we'll have a high 1st in 2025 and will be in a better position to pick a QB who is an actual 1st round prospect.  This team can't afford to spend 3 draft picks on 3 QBs in 3 years.

Just wait until 2025.  Sign a quality, one year stopgap vet if you want competition.

If we were in position to realistically push for the division, immediate help is nice. Next year is going to be a down year, no point in a 1 year stop gap. A later round QB doesn’t stop you from drafting one high in 25 if the need arises. Use the cap and draft capital to build the core of the team. No 1 year rentals unless we have prospect of keeping them longer term later.

Couple of notes from Joe Person in The Athletic (link)

Dan Morgan's status

As the Carolina Panthers’ simultaneous searches for a head coach and general manager move into the next phases, it’s looking more and more likely that assistant general manager Dan Morgan has a good chance of sticking with the organization in a high-ranking role.

Who's doing the interviews

In addition, the 45-year-old Morgan and two other members of the personnel department have been a part of the Panthers’ head coach interviews, league sources told The Athletic. The fact owner David Tepper has included Morgan in the process — along with vice president of player personnel Adrian Wilson and director of player personnel Cole Spencer — would seem to suggest Tepper is considering keeping at least some members of the front office during the transition.

Morgan's connections

Morgan has close ties to two of the Panthers’ head coach candidates. He was in Seattle when Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dave Canales were on Pete Carroll’s coaching staff.

Brian Johnson out

The Panthers appear to have quietly moved on from Eagles offensive coordinator Brian Johnson, whom they had previously requested to interview. The Panthers have announced their completed interviews on their website or social media platforms, which they had done with 11 of the 12 known candidates — everybody but Johnson.

And with the Panthers now starting second interviews, Johnson apparently won’t get a first one. (A league source confirmed Johnson is no longer expected to interview with Carolina.)

I do like that two former players in Morgan and Wilson are part of the group interviewing the HC group. They will certainly look for some things from a players perspective including leadership qualities,

I've never understood why Cole Spencer keeps getting promoted when people say our draft evaluations are a problem.

You never know what goes on behind the scenes but... 🤔

agreed with all this. keep dalton. add another vet FA QB. whatever you do, you don't trade for one or draft one aside from maybe a late round flyer guy.

Not only did we spend the picks on Corral and Young, we traded 4 other picks for Darnold and Mayfield. Those picks were almost identical to the four picks we received for CMC. And now that I’ve said that out loud, I am angry at this team yet again. So we basically traded CMC, DJ Moore, the 1 overall pick in 2024, another first and a second for Bryce Young, Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield.

Keep Dalton if he wants to stick around forsure. These veteran dudes might not want to stick around for a rebuild that’s my only reasoning for saying take a late round flyer. But you never know.. hire dependent I suppose.

So Morgan hasn’t been officially named GM, but is helping with HC interviews, is that common? I thought Tepper wanted the HC to pick the GM?

Well he wasn’t fired and is still the assistant GM. So I would say it is normal when the Panthers have no GM.

    • Hope Koch recovers (he’s stated numerous times he doesn’t like to be called “koochie”) soon. But he does not instill confidence in the crease. I don’t have any confidence in any of our goalies, healthy or not. Andersen when available gives us the best chance to win but he’s never available.    Team has to explore trade options soon.
    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
