Thomas Jones could be next to get the boot

Thomas Jones is getting old, and is above average at best. 2.6 ypc avg compared to Shonn Greene's 5.6 ypc avg with Greene having MORE carries.

He's 31, might as well get some picks out of him while they still can. They still have one of the best run blocking o-line's, as well as their all-pro, insanely talented fullback Tony Richardson. They'll be fine without him.

post season, where he really showed his age.

also: during regular season he had 4.2 yards per carry, which is a respectable number, but not good enough to be resigned at his age.

2.6 = Post-Season

4.2 = Regular Season

At least, that's what I gathered.

if we could get value for Stew, id love to sign TJ

He's not comparable to Stewart, but I know what you are saying. That "tandem" of Williams and Jones would not be effective.

yeah, I went to the NFL stats site and the default page is post-season. I just know a few Jets fan friends of mine that are okay with letting him go and having Greene take the reigns. Like I said, he's just AVERAGE.

You want a back who can last the entire season. Thomas Jones had well over 300 carries during the regular season and mustered up 1400 yards on 4.2 ypc. When the post-season rolled around he was able able to get 117 yards on 45 attempts at 2.6 ypc. That's just not good. He can easily fit into a Jonathan Stewart/Rickey Williams type role in another team.

As you'll notice from some of my posts I take post-season stats pretty seriously :P

bingo. no one even comes close to DWill/Stewie.

Jones had two bad knees in the playoffs. So yeah, he had a decline. The guy has been healthy his whole career give or take, outside the end of last season. I wouldn't attribute that to age. I'd attribute that to him getting so many carries, thus getting knocked around alot more than the average running back. It's been said by alot of people that due to him not getting alot of carries early in his career, and the tremendous shape he keeps himself in, he can and will last longer than most running backs.

Greene broke out, yes, but some of that could have been cause by him coming in with fresh legs during the regular season, since Jones beat up the defense most of the game. And him remaining generally fresh going into the playoffs since he didn't get that many carries during the regular season.

I agree that Shaun Greene should start for the Jets next year, but they need a veteran back to be there incase it doesn't work out for Greene. And Washington has generally been his most dangerous in the screen game, not the running game.
