I love how some folks use the term “retread” whenever it’s suitable to their interests.  Please define the term for me so I’m more clear.

Bill Belichick - retread?

Jim Harbaugh - retread?

Andy Reid was a retread, correct?

Pete Carroll?

Doug Peterson?

Bruce Arians?

Mike McCarthy?

Bill Parcells?

Sean Payton?

So basically someone with previous head coaching experience that once got fired is a “retread”?  

(That’s a lot of Super Bowl champion “retreads” listed above, FYI)

Pretty well established and widely-accepted that retread is used as a slight pejorative towards a middling, replacement-level type of coach whose teams don't tend to stnad out over time. I can't comment about every usage you're thinking of but no, those guys you list would not be retreads. I'd argue that Quinn is a bit above that level (and Pederson above that) but still not someone that would be near the top of my list for a new coach.

Sorry but all of those listed were retreads at the time.  

Andy Reid was fired by the Eagles in 2013 (replaced by Chip Kelly lol) and then hired by the Chiefs (replacing Romeo Crennel lol).

You are incorrect, but as I clearly explained the definition and my position I honestly don't care enough to discuss it futher. If you can't/won't the distinction between the names on your list and guys like Frank Reich then that's on your side. That's not to say that someone like Belichick has anything left in the coaching tank if he goes somewhere else, but that class of coach gets the benefit of the doubt. Everything comes to an end at some point.

The Panthers might be making a mistake by assuming an OC is the best choice because our offense is so bad.  First of all, with Fox and even Rivera, we had good offenses and stout defenses.  Is Bryce going to win shoot outs or should be keep him in games by giving him short fields and turnovers?  A defensive coach knows more about offenses that an offensive coach in theory because he must plan vs. different kinds of offenses every week.  An offensive coordinator knows one offense well, and his challenge is to attack where he thinks the defense might be vulnerable.  I am not sure that a defensive head coach and offensive coordinator are not the best combination for the overall offense because the defensive head coach can challenge the offensive coach during meetings and film sessions.  He can reveal where the defense is vulnerable....Not sure about this, but an offensive coach and an offensive coordinator may not be able to see behind the curtain as well.   Just a theory and I have not thought a lot about it, but I have coached and remember the exchanges during film sessions.

He just started interviewing so it's possible there is still time to figure that out.

I think it's pretty clear there isn't mutual interest with Belichick or Harbaugh since they are both taking second interviews at this point.

Yeah I agree almost no chance he will come here but I am hoping

voted Raheem Morris. I think he's kind of the safest bet because he's already had some success as a head coach, then a bit of a unique situation and he lost his gig. he's had a bunch of years to think about what he can do better, and he's still relatively young. everyone speaks highly of him (have for years now), and he can get players' respect. as good a starting point as any. and I imagine he has good contacts throughout the league to build a formidable staff (that will succeed as one, unlike others we could mention).

But I'll gladly settle on Frank Smith because I thing he's more realistic

20 years of coaching 

Coached almost every position group

Worked with several winning organizations(Mcvay/Shanahan/McDaniels tree)

Extensive history of coaching O-line (big plus for me)

Part of a NFL record setting offense

Well liked by players and coaches across the league
