Methodtoll's list of possible free agents that could fit in Carolina

So I am looking over the list of potential free agents and these are some guys I feel could be a good fit for Carolina based of the team's needs:

QUARTERBACK

J.P. Losman- OAK: I know most think that he would be a waste on the roster bu t he adds veteran leadership and has starting experience with his time in Buffalo. I think with a second chance, he could be a really good game manager. Likely though, he would be an ideal back-up if McCown doesn't return.

Troy Smith- Balt: Before Flacco took over, Troy Smith was the guy that was going to be the starter. He showed a lot of poise and leadership in Baltimore but an injury forced the Ravens to turn the reigns over to Flacco. The issue is that Smith is a RFA and would commend giving up picks..

Wide Receiver

Nate Burleson- Seattle: I know that D.J. Hackett didn't work out but I think Burleson would be a good fit here in Carolina. He could possibly be that deep threat that Carolina needs opposite of Steve Smith.

David Clowney- NYJ: Not only could Clowney help with the deep threat and relieve Smitty, he could also help out our special teams because of his ability to return.

Domenik Hixon- NYG: This is another guy that can help us both in the return game and on our offense. The NYG have a crowded field of receivers and it isn't likely that the Giants will retain Hixon.

Kevin Walter- Houston: This guy won't be a deep threat but he is a strong guy that can, not only catch, but has good blocking ability that would help our run game. Many have been mentioning his name....

I will be back later with some of my favorites on the defensive side of the ball

The question is not whether you would rather those two over #3, its would you rather have them over Delhomme/Cantwell if something should happen to Moore.

As for wideout, IMO the free agent we sign will probably not be on this list. Go for one in the draft first day and take a shot with a vet minimum pickup after cuts are made. Thats Hurneyball.

    • I don't think Rodgers but probably not for the political reasons I bet a lot of posters are motivated by. I just think he is not the QB for the Panthers, at all.
    • Sun Devils just scored another TD on BYU, 14-0
    • It wasn't great but  the 2022 NYG won 9 of 16 games plus a playoff game. He had a 92.5 passer rating. 15 pass TDs 3200 yards, 7 rushing TD, 700 yards 6 fumbles 3 lost.  His first season he had 18 fumbles lost 11. Wow.  Anyhow he had problems in 2023 with injuries and didn't win poo before tearing his ACL. This year, no Barkley, not good, but you know.... these ACLs take a while and it was right and he throws right so pushes off of it.  I agree it doesn't hurt to let that guy compete cheap. You don't hand him the job like with Bryce or NYG with him.  When I look at what we have been saddled with, he doesn't look worse and has the physical advantage. So I don't get the umbrage given our situation. This "No we won't settle for anything less that the best" attitude and then taking Bryce Young was pathetic and I think that attitude brought us to where we are. That's where that poo gets you. Away from Mayfield, away from Darnold, even away from PJ - just to replace them with an inferior PJ.  At the same time I am not really advocating for the guy just looking at it objectively. It could be another guy with the same story. And yes the odds of him getting it are low but the numbers and performance from 2022 are for sure better than we see with Bryce even after a season of major propping him up with better players around him. Take a look don't take a look he fails or he doesn't fail...   to instead sit here and be happier with what we have is bullshit.
