Nate Burleson to become a free agent

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Seahawks' decision to name kicker Olindo Mare their franchise player means they won't be using the tag for anyone else.

Teams can name one franchise player and one transition player, or two transition players, under the current labor arrangement.

The Seahawks appear likely to let receiver Nate Burleson become a free agent. Using the franchise tag for Burleson would have cost more than $9 million on a one-year deal, with that money being guaranteed once Burleson signed the offer.

The contract fellow receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh signed last offseason included a guaranteed $7 million salary in 2010.

Guaranteeing more than $16 million in salary for those receivers -- with Deion Branch set to earn more than $5 million if he stays with the team under his current deal -- was more than the Seahawks appeared willing to allocate.

If Burleson can get $8 million or $9 million as a free agent, good for him.

problem is, his last deal was worth 7 years $49 mil. How much does he think he's worth???

NOOOO This guy has always been overrated. Besides i guarantee after the Hackett failure Hurney and Fox will look to the draft, unless they can get a guy like Breaston or someone a little younger. This has been said a million times but whatever:

2nd rounder: Wide-receiver (doesn't matter if he's possession or speedster: Panthers will draft best available talent)

6th rounder: (Possibly fith rounder with compensation picks): return man-might be corner or wide out.

As far as free agency, as much as I want them to sign a guy like Antonio Bryant, or Breaston at a good price, or another vet I bet they re-sign Moose as that vet. It's just the way we operate-going with the guys who have proven themselves to us, Moose showed a little gas left in the tank at the end of the season with Smitty out, and he's still a hell of a blocker (He could be a great third option like good ole Ricky Proehl). Next years rotation:

Smith, New guy x, Moose, Dwayne Jarett (god i hope he pans out)- As scary as that looks on paper, don't be surprised if that happens

Side note: Also don't be surprised if we make another move into the first round- Fox and Hurney know they are on the ropes- they will most likely focus on the here and now

i wouldn't be suprised if we move around in the 2nd round but getting into the first would take a lot of ammo that we don't have.
