You know who is eyeing that peppers money?

It's better to spread the money around to a group of excellent players than to put it all into the hands of one phenomenal, yet spotty, player who'd rather not be here.

I hate to see Pep go, but it was both his wish and for the betterment of the team long-term. Maybe we'll play against him in the Super Bowl.

but is it enough to extend dwill, beason, and davis... and maybe stewart?

Yep. At least the The 21 million the tag surely could.

Let's see the Panthers get 3 great , significantly younger players and one soon to be great young player...maybe with a little change to spare.

for

1 great player...at 50%.

Anyone who says we should have tagged Peppers is a fuging complete idiot. He didn't want to play here. No one would have paid that and no matter how great a player thinking logically, getting rid of him will help this team as a whole far more than keeping him.

yeah in the last thread where everyone was panicking i asked if they'd rather have peppers or a locked up beason, davis, kalil, marshall, and deangelo.

no one really said anything and just continued to eat paste

Besides money I like the way these guys you listed play football. The Panthers need the passion these guys bring and now that it will be their team they need to set the bar very high how each guy on the 53 man roster is expected to perform. Every game.

I would be surprised if we do anything with Beason and Williams and might only tender Davis and Marshall. That way you save money in 2011 if there is a lockout. Seems Richardson is all about saving money.

Personally I think we should take the opportunity to extend some guys and give them a front loaded contract because there are no cap implications this year. That way when the cap is put back in place, we will take a much smaller hit rather than the other way around with backloaded contracts.

But then again it isn't my money so what do I know?

Why does everyone keep saying that JR is "all about saving money"?

They made one decision that Peppers was not worth $20M for one season or the probably ridculous amount he wanted for a long-term deal.

We may not play heavyin the big name FA signings. But, that is prob a good thing. This FA Class sucks and is very weak. When that happens, you overpay for mediocre players ....just becuase they are the best ones available.

    • Yes.  And this converts directly to confidence.  Does the coach have confidence to call a deep dig or seam route?  Does Bryce have confidence in his ability to be the Alpha?  Do his teammates have confidence.  About film--when I see Cam Newton's pre-snap confidence vs. Bryce's, it is night and day.   Film--tells you if the WRs are open (why l love watching the Replay telecasts from the end zone cameras--you can see it.  I have seen 2 WRs open and Bryce's eyes are on the outlet WR or the pass rush. )  You can see progressions, and he has improved a bit--but he is very quick to rush through 1 and 2 and checkdown--that is a lack of confidence in his ability to read the defense.  I had a former NFL TE (Deems Maye) who played QB in high school (not sure about college) tell me that the best QBs read the defense by knowing where everyone will be when the ball is to arrive--not where they are.  I think his QB at the time was Humphries.  He said that Humphries would throw the ball into coverage before the cuts etc.  because he understood DB momentum, zone areas, etc.  and he could just see it.  Said so when people say nobody was open, they are usually right because nobody should be "open" when the QB has the ball--when the ball arrives, everyone should be open.  He said Humphries was never "great" but his skills were limited--from a small school--but his ability to read a defense made him never give up on a route.
