Panthers to fill void through draft picks

Don't agree with tagging and trading TD or the lack of importance of the WLB in a Tampa 2. TDs role this year will likely be importance in coverage as well as blitzing with the loss of Pep and the potential problem generating a pass rush. He is one of the fastest guys on the team and is needed against players like Bush for example out of the backfield as well as applying pressure to the quarterback.

As for Williams give him a 6 year extension for that matter. It doesn't really matter since the money isn't guaranteed. All we will defintely owe him is the guaranteed money. As long as that is reasonable, he will never see the last 3 years of salary on a 6 year deal.

Couple of things wrong here. #1 I wasn't down playing the importance of the WLB position but was merely stating that it is the easiest postion to find players for. Anderson came in and dominated a couple of games after being non-existent his 1st 3 seasons.

#2 As far as years being not important to guaranteed money, thats not how it works. For starters the longer a contract the more guaranteed money is included in the contract. Even if this were not the case, assuming a CBA is reestablished, when a player is cut what ever guaranteed money that is has not been payed (as far as the cap is concerned) is accelerated immediatly.

Since they take the average of the years and total money the longer the contract the more bonus that has been unpaid. Since 30 to 31 seems to be the breakdown and subsequent cut point of RB's a 6 extension (unheard of for a RB of his age) his contract would still have 3-4 years on it.

I actually think he needs to be traded this year if you want to be honest. His value is the highest it will be, every year he gets older and who knows if he gets injured, and we have beast waiting in the wings. I say if we can get a top 20 pick I say trade him.

Excellent post. DWill is one of those players that haunts a team. We love him, we need him, but he'll be very expensive and does have great trade value. I probably won't like the outcome of what ever decision (glad I'm not the one that has to make it) the team makes. And that decision will affect us (good/bad) for the next few years. Hope they make the right call.

Wahle, Lucas, Kemo, Keyshawn, Lewis just to name a few. They just don't do it every year like the Redskins do.

I'm almost sure none of them were signed in the first 2-3 weeks of F/A

Panthers always wait till the top players are signed and then they start shoping
