Kicker Question

Recommended Posts

What's the deal with marquee kickers just falling off the face of the planet? Just wondering how the greatest clutch kicker of all time (Viniateri) and the most accurate (Vanderjagt) are not currently employed by the NFL.

I've always had a theory that Tom Terrific wouldn't have poo for bling if not for Adam. Maybe we drop Kasay and Lloyd and pick him up to win us a championship? Just trying to think of a subject that doesn't involve Lenny, LT, or Westbrook.

Drop Kasay?!?!?!? You BAST*RD!!! He could be the greatest Panther of all time (Depending on who you argue with) and the only original guy left. I am one of the more hard hearted fans. I am all for cutting a guy when he gets old, rather than have them play and keep the team from developing new talent... but even I wouldnt have the heart to cut Kasay. I know he is starting to lose some of that step, but he is the most loyal Panther of them all. Long live Kasay. He has won many many games for us and I hope he can kick for us until he retires.

Rhys Lloyd has potential. He has a super strong kick. Teach him to show some accuracy, and he could make it as a really good kicker for us.

Teach him accuracy?? I'm sure that's all they've been trying to teach him... He's a kicker, it's not like the have much else to work on in practice outside of...... Kicking

Whens the last time you actually saw him kick. I don't think he has even attempted a FG in preseason. Unless any have seen him kick they might have already fixed the accuracy as I have heard he was drilling 50+ yarders before a couple of games.

You know, people always talk about Kasay being the only original Panther left and more emotional pleas as to keeping him on the team. But let's look at it from a perspective of: Is he worth it?

The answer, based purely on his accuracy, clutch capabilities, leadership, locker room presence and projected longevity would have to be an unquestioned Yes, he is definitely worth it.

Look at how many teams are either struggling to find a franchise kicker or are limping along with some retread on their fourth or fifth team. We're lucky to have Kasay with us, not just for who the guy is, but also for his skills. Lloyd has been an inexpensive pick up to make with the deep kick offs (and he's been excellent) and he does make a good understudy, but Kasay is still one of the best in the league.

Like a pre-2000 Toyota, let's keep him rolling until the tires fall off and he won't let us down.

Age and injuries have caused the fall-off of many Big Name players...including kickers.

I respect Kasay and love what he has done for this franchise. However, you have to look at things from a business perspective.

His leg is not what it used to be....his accuracy has suffered some in the past season....he cannot hold down kickoffs and thus require us to carry another kicker. Sometimes you need to make the right business decision, even if it is not the populare emotional decision.

I think it is time for a change and Kasay should retire.

I think I only even brought up the question because I remember threads last year that asked if Rhys was worth a roster spot, but pending seeing his ability to accurately make moderate distance field goals, I'm wondering if Kasay has turned into our moderate range accuracy specialist more so than Lloyd being our booming kick specialist. Maybe Kasay is taking up a roster spot, not Lloyd.

Just making offseason discussion topics to debate. I'm sick of Peppers running our organization and our messageboard.
