Will receivers want to come to Carolina??

I've always been of the opinion that nothing has happened till it happens in the NFL.

This just makes for good speculation IMO but nothing else, not every WR in the NFL is TO, Chad Johnson or Steve Smith for example dud moose really go to Chicago because he thought he would do better there? No he went there because he got paid and there are a lot of worse places a wr can end up in then Charlotte.

IMO WRs that could make the trip here are players like Austin with the cowboys who is a FA and I believe I have also heard that Lance Moore and the 3rd WR out of Arizona is one as well.

And honestly those are the guys we are looking for not another Steve Smith or Chad Johnson.

People need to learn to be more realistic when looking at stuff like this.

I think FA WRs would know we managed to finished strong and 8-8 despite the QB debacle. They would know that the uncertainty at QB will come with Double Trouble and a more than capable O-line. They would also compare themselves to the previous WRs we've tried to replace Moose with. If they don't think they are better than them, why would I?

I'm sorry, but I just don't accept that that number of WRs didn't 'pan out' as far as showing themselves capable. Drew Carter showed me lots of potential, IF and WHEN he actually had the ball thrown his way, which wasn't often enough. I think a lot of good players have been thrown away because of Jake's lack of looking off his receivers. We ALL know that once he takes the snap, he is locked in on his promary, at least, he is 90% of the time. I think the Panthers may be missing out on a golden opportunity to score some 'selling points' to potential FAs' by not naming Moore the starter immediately, and using that to 'bait' potential WRS' with that being considered a chance 'at a new era'.

That's what I'D do anyways!

If Drew Carter or Kerry Colbert were worth a poo, you would have heard something from them after they left Carolina.

Both are not NFL calibre receivers.

Colbert was a joke. Carter had great speed, but questionable hands.

I don't think any established receiver would want to come here with our QB situation and our run heavy scheme. The only Veterans who would want to come here are those who are past their prime. If Muhammad doesn't come back, then we would need to pick up a cheap veteran.

I really don't think our WR corps is as bad as Delhomme made them look last year. IMO I'd like to see DJ & the new WR coach get their chance to get something going with the pieces we have.

we dont need or want someone to compete w/ smitty's touches. he needs to be fed the ball, he is our playmaker along w/ d-will and stewart. but we need someone w/ good speed, sharp routes, good hands and great blocker.

this doesnt mean we have to get a brandon marshall or anquan boldin. we need someone who is hungry for a #2 oppurtunity (lance moore, steve breaston, etc..). bring moose back for veteran leadership and consistentcy in 3 WR sets.

it would be nice to spend a little of that peppers cash to finally help out smitty. how long has this been an offseason priority? 6 years?!

Really? You have seen our track record drafting wideouts, not to mention the crux of the situation where a couple of players can put us over the top. I don't believe staying out of FA or picking up a couple of camp guys will get us there by attempting to rely on a couple of rookies.

I too think the Panthers should look at the draft to get the #2 WR. Yes, the Panthers have been VERY so-so in drafting WR's throughout their young history. However, I think this year presents the best possible time to draft a WR. The depth at WR is unlike what has been seen in previous years. It's quite solid and good WR's should still be had into the 3rd round. If the WR corps wasn't as deep as it is this year, I wouldn't say we should look at the draft. Seems pretty good though.

Further, if free agent WR's come into Carolina for interviews/tours (which they will), you KNOW they'll be talking with WR/QB/assistant coaches to feel out who they believe is going to be the starter. The coaches obviously know more than we know and probably have a much better idea of who's going to end up at QB come week 1. They should be able to slip that to potential WR's.

Regardless, I think the big names will stay away not only because they don't know who's at QB, but because Carolina just doesn't sign big name WR's. If we get a free agent, they'll be a sleeper type pickup. Potential, but someone who isn't completely established as THE #2 wr.

I would think that there are receivers who would be glad to play with Steve Smith especially if the money was right. Someone like Boldin would be just as willing to play for Moore as they would for Leinert for example. Teams like NO have great passing attacks but spread the ball around so much they only had 1 guy with 1000 yards. Arizona had 2. Seems to me if Moose can get 600 yards at his age, most great receivers would figure they could get 1000 yards in our system.
