Best and worst PFF grades from Panthers' 2023 season

Recommended Posts

Speaks to just how dominant of a blocker 79 really is in the run game. If he can figure out how to just be average in the pass game he’s a franchise changing player. His problem this year was on most pass plays he did a fine job, but on the ones he didn’t, he literally just let the guy go.

guard play also clearly a massive hole on this team.

the guy we signed after the season started as a special teams guy being a top 5 offensive guy is a testament to how poorly everyone else played.

Worst of the offense

17. G Calvin Throckmorton: 50.6
18. G Austin Corbett: 47.9
19. TE Hayden Hurst: 44.7
20. G Nash Jensen: 34.7
21. G Chandler Zavala: 26.2

Oh my guard...

I think this validates my belief about last year that the O-line pass protection was not the strength that people thought it was and we simply masked it by leaning heavily on the run game.

Draft a 5' 10 QB follow that up with historically bad OG play and we wonder why our 5' 10 QB struggled so much. Getting beat on the outside is one thing. Consistant pressure up the middle makes it almost impossible to play QB at a high level.

So maybe we shouldnt have drafted a midget at qb if the conditions have to be perfect for him to perform

“The quarterback would benefit from having somewhat competent guard play” doesn’t mean the conditions have to be perfect.

Who said anything about perfect? How about we start with league average instead of historically bad and go from there

Statistically, our offensive line surrendered pressures and delivered pocket times on a even playing field with averages across the league.

    • Hope Koch recovers (he’s stated numerous times he doesn’t like to be called “koochie”) soon. But he does not instill confidence in the crease. I don’t have any confidence in any of our goalies, healthy or not. Andersen when available gives us the best chance to win but he’s never available.    Team has to explore trade options soon.
    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
