Tony Dungy would agree. The Colts' coach said several times he favored Pittsburgh linebacker James Harrison for MVP — Harrison tied with Minnesota RB Adrian Peterson with three votes. But after Manning's flawless work in the second half of the season, Dungy, while admittedly biased, changed his mind.

Congratulations Peyton!!!

They got it right at the top with Manning.

Rivers got 2 votes and Warner got one. Chris Johnson also got one? Yet no votes at all for Deangelo?

Shows how dumb the Pro Bowl voting is when Rivers and Pennington get MVP votes but don't get to represent their conference in the Pro Bowl ahead of Favre and Cutler.

Deserved.

I can't think of another team that's been lifted as much by one player this season. The Colts probably shouldn't be in the playoffs. he's a big reason they are.

I don't do this often, but I completely disagree with you Mr. Scot. Manning's defense is far, far better than SD's (though SD has picked up since Rivera took over), and actually won them some games. He is also surrounded by all stars. I would say SD wouldn't be in the playoffs without Rivers who has had to overcome his defense many times this year and I certainly don't remember his being bailed out by them when he didn't have a good day like Manning's D did for him. LdT has had a below LdT standard year and if you can name me two WRs on the Chargers you are a hard core NFL fan (I can, but only because I was in love with one of them coming out of college...Jackson... and had hoped Carolina would have drafted him).

Rivers has had a fantastic season and certainly deserves a Pro Bowl bid and an honorable mention for the MVP award, but you know he would not have made the playoffs without the AFC West being as terrible as it is, and without Denver's extremely massive choke job. In fact, if not for an onside kick recovery against a 2 win Kansas City team, they would be at home today, but on the couch. Rivers did have games that he didn't play well in when his defense did pretty well, such as Pittsburgh just like Manning against the Browns. Before you can point out that the Steelers D is better than the Browns, remember that Manning played a good game against the Steelers D at Pittsburgh and got the W.

The Colts best defensive player, Bob Sanders played in something like 6 games this year. Their defense was 24th against the run. While LT did not have a good year, Manning's running game was the worst in the entire league in terms of yards per carry, which is the result of a patchwork offensive line and an awful season from Joseph Addai. Plus Marvin Harrison clearly isn't the same player he was before his knee injury. And I know you don't like Peyton, but coming back from a knee surgery a few weeks before training camp and starting the season clearly affected him, but he played through it.

I've heard of Vincent Jackson and Chris Chambers and I've also heard of all-pro tight end Antonio Gates.

Babe, your Peyton hate is showing through again. He deserved it, and I'm no Peyton fan.

I get why you think that but here's my reasoning.

My dislike for Rivers is almost tied with my dislike of Peyton, and this is my honest opinion on the MVP. Also, I think Brady is the best in the league and I don't think HE should have won MVP last year. All last year showed was what he looks like when he has some elite talent on his side of the ball. He should have won the MVP in 2005 when he was THE reason they made it into the postseason (no run game, tons of OL injuries, no elite talent at skill positions, and sh*t defense for 2/3 of the year). My argument for Rivers over Manning is consistent with that thought.

You're right, Rivers had some sh*ttastic games, but I think Manning had more of them. The Colts had some seriously lucky wins as well. What did their W over Houston have to do with Manning? What did their win over the Patriots have to do with Manning? Pats blew themselves up in that game and the Colts D gave the Colts that W over Houston.

Manning's defense destroyed Pitt's offense as well.

Merriman is widely considered the Chargers' game changer on D and he missed 15 games. And I think that the triumvirate of Gonzales, Wayne, & Clark trump anything the Chargers have on O.

I admit that it rubs me really, really wrong that Manning pimped himself and his injury to Peter King in that conversation they had that was conveniently published on SI.com right before the MVP voting. The right thing to do would be to shut the f*ck up about it and just play. You know, like Brady did in 2005 when he had a sports hernia half the year, or a separated shoulder the whole 2003 year or how Jake did for two years plus, and will not ever use it as an excuse for anything or hype it in any way as being miraculous even though it is unprecedented.

You make some good points X-Clown, but I just can't agree.

    • I didn't say much bigger. Watch the highlights I linked. Bryce doesn't have the arm strength and/or talent to make the vast majority of the throws Mac made in that video.
    • Tetairoa McMillan.   The last 28 1st overall picks were either a QB, DE, or OT. Seeing as I don't think we'd take an OT in the 1st and give up on Ickey as an LT yet and there doesn't seem to be a clear overall #1 type of QB or DE pick this year, it very well could be a non conventional #1 overall this year, at least in regards from the last almost 3 decades of drafts. If we didn't have Horn, I'd be more open to Hunter as a CB at #1, but we have him so another CB wouldn't be how I'd use a #1 pick.  And as much as I love Legette, if we have SB contending aspirations, I don't think Legette is a #1 on a team like that, but he damn sure is an elite #2 on a team like that.  He's more of the Smith/Higgins/Waddle to Brown/Chase/Hill (in terms of role/impact, not style of play of course). T-Mac is going to be the top ranked WR on every team's board in the end.  He is going to be a true outside #1 WR who is viewed as a consensus Top 5 WR in the game by his second contract in the same way guys like Jefferson and Chase have done.  His height combined with his speed, athleticism, and hands are near impossible to find all in one player, there is a reason his generally used comp is Mike Evans (although as he's not as thick, I personally see him more as an AJ Green). Yes, as an Arizona alum I've admitted to having bias towards the player to begin with.  But he's also someone very widely being put into the Top 5 in mock drafts lately and most of them have him as the first non QB offensive player being taken, so it's not really THAT much of a homer pick on my part anyways. If a QB or DE truly separate themselves as being a can't miss prospect come draft day, I'm open to that discussion, but until then, or if it doesn't happen, T-Mac is my pick 100 times out of 100.
