The trade that sent Matt Cassel and Mike Vrabel to the Kansas City Chiefs appears to be only the first phase of some major wheeling and dealing by the New England Patriots this offseason.

The second phase, NFL sources say, is likely to involve a trade that would send Carolina Panthers defensive end Julius Peppers to the Patriots in exchange for the second-round pick (34th overall) they received from the Chiefs on Feb. 28.

According to league sources, the Patriots and Panthers are hoping to complete the deal at some point between the March 22-25 NFL owners meetings and the start of the draft on April 25. However, a deal must be brokered by Peppers' agent, not Carolina, because the player hasn't signed the $16.68 million franchise tender the team gave him last month.

oh that sounds SOLID AS A ROCK

Do we have the dumbest fans in the league? What do you want, a written statement from Hurney confirming that there was a trade in the works with the Patriots that fell through? That never ever happens. They never confirm a damn thing that falls through.

If you don't want to believe the league's own damn site, be my guest. Know that you look like a little kid putting their fingers in their ears shaking their head "no no no I can't hear you!!"

NFL sources say the Panthers would welcome the chance to unload Peppers for a second-round draft pick, even though it would be well below his market value, because it would be less costly than signing a first-rounder. The Panthers already have made some belt-tightening financial moves within their front office.

Stupid front office not doing what SMF wanted!!!:yikes:

Yes, because trade rumors are easy to make up.

Yeah and we are going to trade Deangelo to the Chargers. I saw it reported.

Like I said in another thread, why are we even on this goddamn site if we can't trust any reports about anything? If every reporter just makes poo up for no reason, then why watch ESPN at all? Why read a single Panthers article?

What source is more credible than nfl.com?

that article was speculation by someone who doesn't work intimately with the panthers.

you are painfully obtuse. this is like arguing with the tide.

We should just shut this site down during the offseason then. Every reporter apparently just makes things up for fun. Everybody go over to The Lounge or whatever and wait until the draft to talk about who the Panthers pick....although ESPN's draft day coverage could be an elaborate ploy to lie to Panthers fans about who we select.

Then don't come.

Don't bother. Everything will just get spun into brilliance by Richardson and Hurney.

Hell, didn't Fiz post a Peppers to NE trade thread?

Edit: yep

someone who would have had intimate knowledge of a trade situation occurring between Carl Carey or the Patriots front office.

So it's your thinking that nfl.com just made this up? Then why did you post an nfl.com article about the Patriots being interested in the Panthers just the other day?
